We've already heard this beat/sample get played out with Bryson Tiller's song... Now mainstream media push this as a continuation to that sound. Just watch...

Of all the weird things that are said and done on The Coli, the one thing I'll never understand is the hatred for Cole. :dwillhuh:

Seriously, why are people trying to discredit him in every single thread? It's like his success causes you guys to :damn: and :sadbron: like you won't be able to pay your bills this month.

@Abogado with that voice of reason :salute:

Stannery keeps the quality of music low.
Nothing influences the quality of music but the quality of music, stans aren't a factor, popularity isn't either.
J Cole dropped a great album, I've always considered him fairly average music-wise but talented, the quality is on point with the talent this time around.

Also this shyt is hip-hop, unlike the most popular album of this year.

He clearly means that stans have affected what is played on the airwaves. There's no reason for a song no one has heard to be #1 on Itunes for example.

I think I need to write an article on this because people don't get what I've been saying when I tell them that their are no casual fans anymore. There are only stans. Stans will cop whatever you put out as long as it is what they fell in love with you for in the first place. It doesn't matter what people outside of that think or what critics think (and I think the critics are always more right than stans). That is why critiquing an album is pointless. No one is actually sitting there starting off judging production, instrumentation, lyrics, flow, etc. They are first looking for the personal connection (even if they don't realize it) and then they're getting to all that other stuff. As matter of fact, that stuff will only come up if people aren't stans of you. Album reviews only matter for award season and even that is now just a popularity contest (Grammys don't act like the Oscars). Beyonce had the highest grossing tour of the year with two barely top 40 singles and still grossed something like 240 million off of only 49 shows. You guys are behind when you're talking about "what's hot." People like Young M.A. are hot for group settings and parties, but no one cares about her backstory, she didn't give them "her." People want heroes and something to connect to. All the biggest stars sell for that reason. The era of buying an album for a hot song are over. All hit singles do is get people to open up the book like Cole himself said.

FYI, this is dope for Cole, but he dropped in December with no new big songs out. The test is next week.
You also have to touch on these artist playing up to their stanbases.

Just listen to the the hook of this song its written to hit every single Cole Stan sensibility.

Imitating Pacs voice

Reminiscing to college or youth "When back that ass up came on"

"I'm such a good guy and she just can't see it or notice it yet"

But Drake, Beyonce, Future and Kendrick do the same things .

How are stans not a factor? :what: They have purchasing power and they're used as a jumping-off point to hopefully influence casuals/non-fans to buy into the hype.

J Cole is below average.

that's true but that's the point of these rankings, I don't think there's a need to say popularity rankings are affected by popularity.

The more interesting thing to point out though, is that stans cling onto these popularity numbers to support the quality of the music they worship, even though it is completely irrelevant.

They have purchasing power and they're used as a jumping-off point to hopefully influence casuals/non-fans to buy into the hype.
thought you were talking about music quality, not popularity, sorry.

They all do it. Dude rode off on a bike at the end of the Eyes Documentary :deadrose:. We're on the internet and cats can't do a google search of marketing and branding? These artists are literally on social media to market to you. I mean they teach this shyt in business school these days. That said, I fukk with Cole, and for some reason broads always tell me I'd be J. Cole if I was a rapper. I don't know if that's a compliment lol.
