Ohhhhh, that makes sense. The Black kids at your high school watched basketball so therefore the NBA didn't have white fans in the early 2000s. Got it.

:camby:

I also rarely heard the NBA being discussed on local sports radio here in Tennessee. Cacs talked more about college basketball than the NBA back then.

Maybe it was regional but down south cacs did not fukk with the NBA at all when I was growing up. It was almost exclusively just us black folk.

There is no middle ground. Jamal just gave you the temperature of the players, but now you’d be more interested in what the coaches have to say? Nah, you seem to be looking for validation fir the narrative that’s anti- Russ. In that short clip Jamal said a mouthful, and if this was a more likable player, then everyone would sing a different tune. But it’s Russ, so his peers perspective doesn’t matter, you need to hear the coaches instead. Smh. I’d always trust active players opinions on active players, especially from their era.

nah brodi. Im far from anti-russ.

But can you agree that sometimes bais gets in the way and players are looking at the game differently?

while
I put a lot of importance on player to player opinion in regards to play, they sometimes cant gauge how certain players play, can be a hinderance to a particular team.

Coaches, in general, are suppose to look at all aspects of every players strength and weakness, and build around those things to bring out the best of the talent at hand. I give equal importance to coaches because they are suppose to analyze at a greater level.

Idc if you think he’s stat padding honestly. One thing you can say about Russ tho is you could
Never question his heart or effort for better or worse.

Exactly, I just got done with a open run with Chris Thomas(former Notre Dame guard) and couple former D2-D3 players and even though we were playing pickup ball to average a triple double in that setting would be ridiculous let alone the NBA....

Exactly.

Its the reason why I loved early 2000s basketball so much. Very few cacs liked the NBA then. It was more of a hood sport. And the players exemplified it with their style and play. David Stern instituting the dress code might have increased cac interest in the league but it destroyed the sports authetincally black cultural roots.

Now the NBA is essentially a white endorsed sport. Even the style of play with all this 3-point shooting versus the street ball one on one style of the early 2000s has been brought in to placate their tastes.

The black influenced NBA as we know it died a long time ago. What we have now is some bizzaro cac inspired sport.

The biggest thing is after all the insane regular season numbers, he's had so many dud playoff performances and horrific shooting games that it kinda nullifies everything. Dame sonned him something vicious when they met a couple years ago and that's a guy who's had his own postseason struggles.

The same way we talk about Giannis when he gets walled off in the playoffs and doesn't have the same impact.

:dwillhuh:

What the fukk are you talking about???

He’s speaking facts. White people weren’t fukking with basketball like that back in the day. They were moreso football fans, hockey fans and baseball fans. I can count on one hand how many times the white kids in high school got in on our basketball debates about Kobe, AI, TMac but they definitely couldnt stop talking about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. It’s something you can’t quantify. You just had to be there to experience it.

Everywhere...You never there.
You do realize basketball was created by a white man, and the base concepts of the sport were mostly engineered by white men?

fukk are you talking about?

Fairly certain the raw concept of basketball began in Africa , the cradle of civilization for every earthbound concept and being .

Study ya lessons

Oh and Crawford euphemized cacs with stat guys :heh:

He's had more playoff success than most players in the league including CP3. And his career shooting splits aren't too dissimilar to the man in your avi. Regardless, even if he isn't an elite shooter, he's still one of the best playmakers in league history.

His playoff averages are essentially the same

Back in the early 2000s I only remember black people talking about it daily. Cacs were more into the NFL, MLB, and college football. I went to a high school that was about 50% black and 50% white. And only the brothas were into the NBA heavy. We were the only ones arguing Kobe vs A.I. vs T-Mac.

It wasn't until I was in college around 2006-2007 that I first saw white dudes my age that were into the NBA heavy.
U didn’t grow up around many white people?

You two clowns do understand that what happened in your high school is not how you quantify what is going on in the rest of the country??

he says in his post he went to a 50/50 black/white HS

and he's right, only cacs who were super geeked about ball back then were the ones who actually balled. The whole thing where nerdy cacs got heavy into ball started in the mid-ish/late00s and exploded n/h early 10s
