I have to think the nature of the game being faster and having more explosive athletes has to have something to do with it also not to mention the schedule

People really over looking this. The game has exploded since Jordan's retirement with that one-on-one stye of play. And its causing alot of injuries

All those weird juking, planting, reverse, jump stop, eurostep, etc... That wears on someone's body

Is there any actual statistical proof that players are getting injured at higher rates this season or are we just going off confirmation bias?

3 players have torn ACLs their season: Murray, Fultz & Dinwiddie (who was only partial), which is right on par with most other seasons in recent history

D Rose & Shump tore theirs on the same day in the playoffs.

Unfortunately this type of injury is common in basketball.

He had a very strong base

it may be some validity to the shoe argument. The players may have too much grip/traction control for their bodies. Also it could be an argument that the AAU circuit they came up under and playing almost year around with some playing other sports could be an issue as well.

Actually I've heard playing one sport and only one sport too much helps causes injuries because kids/teens/young adults do it all year round

I think it would be better to play other sports rather than all basketball all year. And these all are generally elite athletes so they workout and do skill training at a high level.

The style of play definitely isn’t conducive anymore to a 82 game schedule

Esp when you consider how much the young brehs put out there. Zion, Ja, Miles Bridges. That’s ALOT of bounce them nikkas expending at basically 20

Yupp. Pre-2000, you had maybe 2, at most 3 players on the team who had that type of perimeter play. The game was still centered around the post and you even had guards with Post skills like Gary Payton, Kidd, Kenny Anderson, Steve Smith, etc

Now in 2021 its on overload. Literally every player on an NBA team constantly tries these moves

What did Karl Malone do every offseason to only miss like 8 games from 1985-2003?

John Stockton was also plenty durable

Some people are just built different. You can increase your performance and muscles but your ligaments will stay the same. The more stress you put on them the more they break down. Guys like LeBron and Malone probably have stronger and more flexible ligaments.

I mean there's always exceptions to the rule my knees were flabby and sick by the time I was 21 no level of conditioning would change that :yeshrug:

So are yall cool with load management now?

Nope I think the point is many people have said the season is too long as it is not and that's not even including the way the schedule is built now.

I've been watching the NBA since I can remember and even I miss half the games now until deep into the second half of the season.
