Only liked about three or four songs on here but I felt the same about her other albums.

Always thought her image/aesthetic was leagues ahead of her music.

Thirdly, if the album sucked, why in the hell is it the most critically acclaimed album of 2018? Why is EL her least acclaimed album? Why is the Coli the only forum trashing it?

You just proved my point with your second paragraph. I didn't even know her, therefore I didn't even know what to expect from her. I obviously wasn't expecting a certain type of sound because I never heard her prior albums. Like I said, I listen to all genre's including some pop, and it wasn't that great. Obviously a lot don't like it, and you do. That's fine.

If your favorite rapper started singing, would you give him a pass for stepping out of the box? When Wayne started doing rock and acoustic shyt he lost a lot of credibility. Yeah he stepped into another genre, but unless it works, you don't get credit for effort.

The fact that most don't like it is pretty telling. And sales have nothing to do with how great an album is. Most artists best albums aren't their best selling albums.

Oh I KNOW I'm right about that. It's sad tbh. But I can't change anything about it.

I'm defensive because if I believe in something and I'm passionate, I will defend it until the end. And if I know that it's not being trashed on other forums aside from The Coli, then it makes things even worse. But knowing that I am in The Booth, a subform centered around R&B and Hip Hop, I can't be disappointed in people not liking it. Hell, I told y'all that I would probably be alone in loving it (on here), and aside from the people who dislike it.. I am actually surprised that a few liked it.

If my favorite artists kept repeating themselves, I'd be more disappointed in that than hearing them actually taking risk and evolving musically.. especially If I knew they had the potential to step out of the box and try different things without from compromising their artistry. Janelle is no different. With someone as versatile as she is, taking steps backward would be a disappointment.

You're saying people don't like it, yet it has a fukking 91% on metacritic (tied with The ArchAndroid and way above The Electric Lady) from 20 reviews, and a 9.2/10 after over 200 user reviews. So aside from The Coli, who's really hating on it that much? Answer me that question!! Looks like the people (outside of the Coli) and the critics mostly like this album. In my opinion, that's REALLY telling.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but most of the opinions in here are really sticking out to me like a sore thumb (as with most of the backwards opinions I’m seeing in the Booth as of late) And it's a reminder that I shouldn't really take them seriously anymore and moving forward, I won’t.

Lol don't run now, if you love the album then stand on it like you were before. Though I can't say this album is better then Electric Lady. There are songs on Electric Lady better then this whole album and even you will admit that. This album was her trying too hard to be commercial imo and that's what hurt it a lot.

Well it got a 7.7... which makes no sense because the review was written like it should've been rated above an 8. But whatever.

Change isn't good for most. People/The consumer want what they are used to and when that artist does what they don't expect, the consumer is ready to turn their backs on them.

Yep, only artist I see do it well was Kendrick with TPAB and even he caught some flack for it by fans but if he came with an album people expected it would have flopped or been said to not have been as good as Good Kid Maad City. He felt he had to go outside the box for his sophomore album and he delivered doing that.

Kendrick is a great example and is another artist I feel has progressed with each album. TPAB is that album that is praised, yet hated on (mostly by jealous people/closeted fans)...but it's a modern day hip-hop classic. I was heated as hell when he got robbed for AOTY at the Grammys (as well as for DAMN...but then again, the Grammys seem to have something against giving black artists that award anyway). Both of his albums were a LOT better than the others it was going against. smh. GKMC is excellent too (my second favorite Kendrick album after TPAB). He's the most consistent artist of our time. I just hope he continues pushing the envelope while giving us quality.

I agree, that review seemed off to me too because it seems like they love it but gave it that grade but again I don't put much stock into reviews period.

He always drops a quality album and part of that is the team he works with at TDE, they always come with something different and are great musicians able to help him execute.

I don't think the reviewer actually is the one who rates the album. I believe all of pitchfork's staff comes together and they collectively reach that score. Once again, they will probably have it in their year-end list. They did the same thing to St. Vincent's last album (if you know of her). It was acclaimed yet they gave it a 7.7 but included it in their year-end list above albums that they rated higher. lol. Their system is interesting.

20+ reviews is more than enough to say it's superior to Electric Lady. Haha. Nah, but all 3 albums are great, I have nothing bad really to say about any of them.

Those other rappers you mentioned don't even even compare to Kendrick. I just laugh at people who constantly like to discredit him. lol! I hope he continues making the haters mad.

The vibe of DC is 80's pop. If you don't mess with pop like that, you won't like it.
