Set them back? How do you say that while ignoring the body of work that he left them with? :mindblown:
He's probably referring to his salary that could of been used to get better talent. Lakers pretty much paid him for what he did in the past and not what he could do currently. Even though he did/does put people in seats.

Kobe earned and deserved that salary and even then he was still the best player on the team. So where else was the money gonna go?

If we really wanna be honest David Stern and the failure to trade Dwight is the reason the Lakers are where they are right now

His body of work has nothing to do with the franchises current make up. Lakers should be in the same place the spurs are currently in. Instead they invested in a player over the franchise which is fine i suppose . As a fan of kobe you probably appreciate that.

Nah Basketball reasons set us back. Ruined Lamar mentally, had to trade him for nothing. Destroyed Pau who was never the same and we got swept which made Phil retire. People forget basketball reasons changed the landscape forever.

Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki both took pay cuts to help build their team. They deserved the money also but they wanted to help their team. Neither of them have or had endorsements like Kobe to make up for the cut. I made it clear in my post where the money could of been spent... On better players. That trade veto occurred about 5 years ago right? So, during that 5 years there were no other players to acquire? Did that trade veto hold the Lakers back that much?

Basketball reasons def set yall back but I also think yall had another intial reset with the Dwight trade which was destroyed by the front ofice. As corny as he is/was he was a standard piece in gaining free agents. Management should have sold the franchise to him or at least lied to him so that you guys could have had an foothold for the free agency market. It evidently cause you guys to miss out on every big free agent once the game plan of the team leaked out. I think the Lakers need to do some serious pr with convincing players that it's a legit destination for winning championships Instead of selling the location. Everyone lives in la. Lma and Dwight would have been a great start .

He's not that wrong. Kobe salary is major obstacle in helping build the Lakers imo.

Kobe's salary ain't stopping the Lakers from doing shyt. There's not a hard cap in the NBA. If they wanted to spend on players they could. What Kobe's presence allowed them to do was tank their fukking asses off the past few years and still cake off of it because everyone was STILL coming to Lakers games because of Kobe. They sold a million fukking dollars of Kobe merchandise in one day. They could've paid whomever they wanted, but they went the 76er route and Kobe being there took the stank away

The Lakers sold a record-breaking amount of Kobe merchandise for his last game
