Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki both took pay cuts to help build their team. They deserved the money also but they wanted to help their team. Neither of them have or had endorsements like Kobe to make up for the cut. I made it clear in my post where the money could of been spent... On better players. That trade veto occurred about 5 years ago right? So, during that 5 years there were no other players to acquire? Did that trade veto hold the Lakers back that much?
Dirk's team is nowhere near contending for a title and hasn't for some time.

Dwight is expendable, the problem is the Lakers weren't trying to mold a team at all. instead only trying to overpay big free agents, it's the old way of building a team. Players want to win, my argument is Dwight would have looked better than what yall have now.
Ok but how is that Kobes fault? You're blatantly implying the front office is inept and that's my point too. Either way paying Dwight 25 a year would have been stupid.

He's probably referring to his salary that could of been used to get better talent. Lakers pretty much paid him for what he did in the past and not what he could do currently. Even though he did/does put people in seats.

Some people have argued that Kobe set them back by driving away Dwight as well. I think that was probably a good thing, overall. Dwight is fool's gold.

He's not that wrong. Kobe salary is major obstacle in helping build the Lakers imo.
The Lakers aren't even in that bad of a hole. They got some young talent. They will draft more talent. Their main focus should be hiring a competent head coach. Their last title wasn't THAT long ago. Kobe isn't wrong for his salary, ownership knew what would happened and they still paid him so who gives a fukk.

But Dwight Howard is trash. Who cares. Why pay someone max money if he's not gonna help you win a title.

Then why were you stans whining the last 4 years? who could they have signed besides Lebron that would have helped them towards another title?

It also doesn't help if Kobe is chucking inefficiently. Say what you will but there was talk that LMA wouldn't sign with the lakers because of Kobe.

Ultimately the lakers decided to pay Kobe legacy money and not try to compete, which is fine, except you can't afford decent FA's that way. Also, there's no sign that the Front Office is going to get their heads out of their ass any time soon. For now, Jerry West is helping the warriors and hopefully it'll stay that way :jjjjj:

TYRONE GA!
His body of work has nothing to do with the franchises current make up. Lakers should be in the same place the spurs are currently in. Instead they invested in a player over the franchise which is fine i suppose . As a fan of kobe you probably appreciate that.

Lakers offered him the money though. It wasn't some hardball negotiation by him.

whining?

I was part of the group that wanted us to sign the 2nd tier players like Isiah Thomas and others to build that foundation. I knew we weren't getting anyone these past few years and we won't get anyone this year either. We're going to strike out and come back with the same shytty roster.

Paying Kobe 25 million instead wasn't exactly a smart basketball move.

Did it affect the team's capabilities to sign other max free agents?

:francis:

Money was there and the reason why these free agents even took a meeting was out of respect for Kobe. Kobe threw them a lob and they couldn't convert.
