the primary reason for the existence of a sneaker is fashion. The primary reason for an artist to have a sneaker is to extend the rapper's brand. And the primary reason for its sale is because there is money to be made. i.e. a cash grab for all parties involved.
The 'symbol of unity' stuff is an afterthought. It sits somewhere between "afterthought and complete bullshyt". People who bring "unity" up as a direct or implied primary reason for the shoes' existence are naive.
