more surprised by Bey showing up for Brandy and Monica, she spent the height of her career avoiding collaborations with other black female singers (aside from a shleved single with Alicia), didn't think she acknowledged they exist :ehh:

So you’re saying she wasnt much for favors?

Why do you think Beyonce avoided making music with her female peers during her Apex
bey has always been a brand, and the only subpar thing she seemed ok lending her brand to were her (mother's) terrible clothing lines

trends changed by the mid 10's and that's when you see her aligning with and adopting edgier and more ratchet elements to stay relevant

Female RnB singers collabing with each other isn't really a thing is it?
it definitely existed and the newer girls really have embraced it - summer walker, sza, lizzo, jazmine sullivan, HER, jhene aiko, kehlani, ari lennox, queen naija, etc have been all over one another's songs/albums and socials

For fun, I just picked 4 black female R&B singers - Brandy, Amerie, Ashanti and Alicia Keys - to see how many other black women they collaborated with on their first 3 or 4 albums:

Brandy - 1 female collaborator on her first 4 albums, Monica
Ashanti - 0 female collaborators on her first 3 albums
Amerie - 1 female collaborator on her first 3 albums (Eve, 1 Thing Remix)
Alicia Keys - 1 female collaborator on her first 3 albums, a random person called Lellow who I can't even guarantee is a woman because I don't know who that is

gotta look beyond albums - remixes, soundtracks and compilations were big. brandy had Lyte, YoYo, Queen Latifah on the remix, worked with whitney, did the song with monic, had the track with tamia, gladys, and chaka off top

And Beyonce doesn't have those?

I mean... I'm not a Beyonce fan or anything, but... this feels like one of those things where how you feel about a person is making you say something that isn't true, or wholly true.

You can not like Beyonce without having to use a random rule that doesn't apply to anyone else as a stick to beat her with

I'm not that invested, I would have been happy to have been proven wrong, but I just wanted to see if what you were saying was true, and it turns out it wasn't. That's all I got.

from like 03-12 the era i was speaking on, no, not to my knowledge, but i also didn't go digging in the crates for bey music, if it wasn't on her album or a single, i wouldn't know. but this isn't some critique i made up, it literally was a common thing people in the "bey is blocking" camp that would be cited...she didn't collab with other black women back then and you didn't see her hanging with her "peers" during that era either

I understand that it's a common sentiment that people parrot, but I'll refer to what I said before:

"this feels like one of those things where how you feel about a person is making you say something that isn't true, or wholly true."

And you said, in reference to those other artists

gotta look beyond albums

Only to now say, in reference to Beyonce

if it wasn't on her album or a single, i wouldn't know.

I'm not looking for a "gotcha" moment, I have no issue with you or much dog in this fight, but...

full

Once again, and as my last thing since I think I've done enough:

"this feels like one of those things where how you feel about a person is making you say something that isn't true, or wholly true."

Is this the show that 50 Cent popped out at? I know he performed at their LA show but I don't know if they had multiple LA shows tho..

I’m talking about her albums!

[reply]

You gotta look beyond albums!

Is a crazy exchange :russ:
Cause doing movies with them and appearing on their albums, is avoiding them. Dudes will say all these cats are better than Beyoncé but somehow know all songs on all Beyoncé albums and don’t know songs on these other people’s albums. Make that make sense

Joe Buddens loves to argue like that and change subject quick as fukk or ask why are you still talking about this :mjlol:

Nah this is revisionist history because what black female singers has Mary J Blige collabed with for example?

I just don't think collabs by women in R&B have ever been a thing like that unless there was a story behind it like Whitney vs Mariah or Brandy vs Monica.
This is cap.

And there’s more where this came from.
