He still nice as fuk but from 98-03 dude was on another planet lyrically. IMO after American Gangsta dude has not been consistent bar for bar. Still better than 95 percent of anyone out now

He's off beat a few times on 4:44. He has a few tracks on EIL that are cool but overall it's rather forgettable imo. The more important thing about the album to me is that it shows he has improved rapping over trap beats. I thought MCHG was trash and featured some pretty bad attempts at trap rap. Fast forward to 2018 and he's doing it better than all of his 1990s peers.

edit: thread is making me realize what a polarizing artist Jay is to me....Vol 1 might be my favorite album ever.......meanwhile Magna Carter is positively the worst rap album I ever heard in my life.
