Jay Z top 10 to me, arguably top 5. I don't think he's overrated because he's exhibited enough true greatness to be considered great and 1 of the best.

I don't believe he's the GOAT, Pac, KRS, K-Rino and Nas comfortably better to me, but after that it gets closer because Jay has numerous classic songs and to me 2 classic albums.

At times cause Jay Z last shyt was wack I think some overlook the great work he's done. The other side to me personally he's not near being THE Goat, he's missing some elements but he has mad skill, is a dope writer, made great songs and classic albums. Sometimes hearing him rhyme at his best is an honour, for what he's done he has my respect and appreciation, I still wish he comes back and delivers some better music, even now he can do a lot better than MCHG.
How is Nas better than Jay :mjlol:? His influence is :wow: their discog is on the same level

I think Nas discography has been more consistent, even if you compare Life Is Good to MCHG, to me it isn't close, Nas would take that. Nas has mostly kept depth and purity to his music while at times Jay has just gone all out hopping on trends which hurts the quality.

I mentioned Jay to me has 2 classics, Nas to me got around 4. I think Nas has more depth as I mentioned, is more creative and conceptual, better substance, arguably more consistent lyricist, I think his music touches you that bit more. I think he's more poetic, has elements of spirituality in his music more than Jay which gives Nas shyt an extra layer and profoundness at times. I think he's a better storyteller for the most part.

Ultimately I just think he's made better music overall, more timeless ish. I realize this is subjective though and if someone puts Jay ahead it's all good cause he's great too, but Nas to me just been much more consistent over the years than Jay. I listen to LIG and while I don't think it's classic it's a very good album, MCHG was kind of wack to me, and disappointing, to me in most cases Nas has normally been a step ahead of Jay when it comes to albums throughout their career. That's why I personally pick Nas, but Jay is a legend and I am a fan so respect to him too...

What 4 classics does Nas have :mjlol:? I respect your opinion but who's influence is bigger:comeon: I think Jay got 3 classics (RD, Blueprint, Black Album) and so does Nas (Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic) , Nas is better lyrically but Jay is much more appealing.

My Top 10 would go like this
1- Pac
2- Jay
3- Nas
4- Rakim
5- Ice Cube
6- Biggie
7- Scarface
8- Eminem
9- 3 Stacks
10- Snoop

But from 97-2003 jay had better albums every year then them. Then he did every year, and didn't need a partner :mjpls:
Murda Muzik > Vol 3
HNIC > Dynasty
Infamy < Blueprint
RD is better than any wu album regardless
:pdahell:
OBFCL
36
Liquid Swords
Supreme Clientele
At the end of the day it's all bout how dope the music is. U disagree but other will agree most of this shyt is dope. I can agree that his music since 03 ain't been the best ever(American gangster and WTT were both great) but 96-03 was unfukkitable
He was very uneven during that period.
mainstream rap is a joke anyway, whether your top 10, 5, or 2 means ultimately means nothing.
:pdahell:
@mobbinfms whats up with your lack of coastal allegiance?

HOE is top 3 of 1996 after ATLiens and Ironman

I think Muddy Waters and Reasonable Doubt round out my 5
I just call it like I see it. I don't overrate something because it's from the Bay.
what difference does it make, mainstreams rap isn't much different from pop music, it carries the same depth and serves the same function. Jay Z would pull a young thug is he was capable, trust me
Going how far back?

Stillmatic
God's Son
Distant Relatives

Those are classic to me, has some other great albums too.

Influence is hard to say, in the mainstream probably Jay nowadays, back in the day quite a lot of even prominent MC's were inspired by Nas.

That's reasonable, I think Black Album is a very good album, just falls short of classic to me but very dope nevertheless.

Appealing is subjective, to some Nas' music more appealing....

Mine would go something like, in no order...

2Pac
KRS-One
K-Rino
Nas
Rakim
Jay Z
Biggie
Big Pun
Scarface
Bizzy Bone

I think we agree Jay is a GOAT and 1 of the greatest though so it's all good, ranking and ish always gonna be different from person to person...
