I'd say X and Hov shared 98 and 99
Em had 2000
Hov and Nas shared 2001
Em had 2002
50 had 03-05
TI had 06
Kanye had 07
Wayne had 08-11
Actually I might give 2010 to Rozay

The thing about jay in the 90’s was his music was bigger than him as an artist.

As a huge jay fan I can semi agree with that.

Cause I know my big brothers and all they friends was all fully intrenched in the roc a fella brand. Had the streets is watching dvd, and had bleek albums, had backstage and everything roc fella

eh, not really he never really had a monumental year when everyone talked about him or what he did eclipsed other artists. I feel like he was one of the big names for years and during the DMX, Ja, Nelly, Eminem period he was usually in the number 2 spot. The issue with Jay is he had a lukewarm to bubbling rise where some artists were anticipated as it was their debut album or they had a lot of hype behind them for whatever reason

Eminem never ran a thing but TRL
so if this is true, why when 50 cent signed to shady/aftermath it was part of his hype and appeal, under your guise he could have signed to Nelly and still be the man he is today

From 98 to 03, if he wasn't number 1, he was 1b. Stop tryna discredit homie on some b.s.

98 - X, Lauryn, Jay
99 - Juvie, Dre, Jay
00 - Em, Nelly, Jay
01 - Ja, Jay
02 - Em, Nelly, Jay
03 - 50, Jay
this is honestly the correct list, 1 artist would be the breakthrough, jay would be seen as what he is today honestly jay-z, nikka actually mastered how to market himself tbh

in 98, jay-z was right behind dmx
no one can tell me jay was bigger den X in 1998
especially with x dropping 2 albums in one year
but jay was definitely a major figure

same with 99, jay played a major part but hard to say he was number 1.

jay-z ran rap from sept 11-2001, until december 4, 2001
'
then Nas shook the building :dead:

You wanna play like Interscope/Jimmy Iovine is the same thing as Universal and Mase's homie?

I'm not saying Eminem wasn't shyt.

But, at his peak, he was dissing pop stars ever week.

Eminem's music is medipcre. But when you sell 120 million records, and your not really in the spotlight that much....like it or not,Eminem has been running shyt.

Being the most popular and running shyt is too different things.

Eminem never set a trend to where a rapper who wanted to be hot had to follow that trend.

I never liked how people don't admit Eminem is in his own lane not even held by real high standards.

Eminem got Forgot About Dre, What's The Difference, My Name Is and Stan. Eminem is a megastar, not because he changed the game, but, because a bunch of people wanted to buy into the brand. You definitely have to understand he's apart of the most powerful people in music.

Nah between 98-2003 Jay was the top gun celebrity wise in rap.

Rockafella Records (albums plus State Prop, Ye etc)
40/40 club
Box office movies
liquor
clothing line
huge stadium concert tours

All that stuff was basically unheard of for an artists to do in those days...they changed the game completely.

Lots of artists had those things before Jay. Hell, you basically describe Wu, (as well as Master P, Cube, LL, Run DMC etc)

I'd say you kinda have to put in Nore, Pun & Ja in runnings for '98 as well. Can I Get A was Ja's single with a Jay feature. They all had different parts of the year Nore owned the summer, X owned the whole 2nd half of the year (Jay didn't hit his stride til fall)

Disagree...all those that you mentioned had one or two parts, but not the whole list that I mentioned.

Jay in 98/99-2003 pretty much was the standard blue print. Diddy and Bad Boy was a close second.

I think people are confusing recordnsales with being a global brand. X, Em, Nore etc put out hits as artists, but as a business Rocafella and Bad Boy were on top. Anyone who could get on--dreamed of being a part of those teams
