I was uninterested in the single, I Just Wanna Love You, though I remember how Melyssa Ford captivated me in XXL and that video. I got the album burned for me for $5 my freshmen year of high school, 2000, and I loved about 6 tracks.

Intro, This Can't Be Life, Streets Is Talking, Stick To The Script, Soon You'll Understand, Where Have You Been, Squeeze 1st, (terrible beat) and the Bleek solo, 1900 Hustler, I guess there are about half dope tracks, looking at that list.

The Rick Rock track, I can't even remember was really heavy that year, but I always thought it was weak. There are some really bad tracks too, "Parking Lot Pimpin", "Get Ya Mind Right Mami", despite a fire beat. I remember this time really well, what an era of music.

It makes since it's a little muddled as an album, because it was originally supposed to be a compilation.

Those tracks like Early This Morning are from The Blueprint sessions. The intro is such a timeless song, I don't know if Jay has rapped like that since. Jay really lost a step after this album, lyrically.

Also add Stick 2 The Script, Change The Game and Guilty Until Proven Innocent (tho granted both those songs sound dated now but were fire in real time).

Intro, This Can’t Be Life, Soon You’ll Understand, Where Have You Been, I Just Wanna Love U, You Me Him Her, 1900 Hustler, Streets Is Talking, R.O.C.

Intro, this can’t be life, soon you’ll understand make the album a classic. Basically Rough version of blueprint

those three songs really should have been on the blueprint

would have fit perfectly

As far as this album I still view it as a compilation.

Always fukked with this album, this is where The Roc really started to find a specific sound.

That Face verse will always have me :mjcry:
Said my homeboy Reek, he just lost one of his kids and when I heard that I just broke into tears

And see on the second hand, you don't really know how this is but when it hits that close to home to feel the pain at the crib :to:

It's not underappreciated. Everything don't have to be a classic, and this wasn't no matter how much you love The Blueprint and look at this as a precursor. It wasn't that good, no matter how much you nikkas want it to be.

I remember being thrown off by the release :leon:as a solo album because all of the hype leading up to the release was that it was going to be a Roc Compilation album and I honestly wasn’t excited for that at all because I figured Jay-Z wouldn’t have as much influence. So when he released it as his album I was much more intrigued :obama:and very surprised :huhldup:by the turn in the sound of the album from his previous release (Soul samples). Definitely was pleasantly surprised because I didn’t really rock with Vol. 3 at all aside from a couple tracks really. Felt he was moving too far into a commercial lane :hubie:

Hov introduced us to Kanye & Just Blaze on this album mayne :to:

The album wasn't good. It's okay to say Jay had an album that wasn't good. i was in college at the time, and even then everyone started saying it was "Ehhh" after they kept playing the same 4-5 songs
