I was uninterested in the single, I Just Wanna Love You, though I remember how Melyssa Ford captivated me in XXL and that video. I got the album burned for me for $5 my freshmen year of high school, 2000, and I loved about 6 tracks.
Intro, This Can't Be Life, Streets Is Talking, Stick To The Script, Soon You'll Understand, Where Have You Been, Squeeze 1st, (terrible beat) and the Bleek solo, 1900 Hustler, I guess there are about half dope tracks, looking at that list.
The Rick Rock track, I can't even remember was really heavy that year, but I always thought it was weak. There are some really bad tracks too, "Parking Lot Pimpin", "Get Ya Mind Right Mami", despite a fire beat. I remember this time really well, what an era of music.
It makes since it's a little muddled as an album, because it was originally supposed to be a compilation.
Those tracks like Early This Morning are from The Blueprint sessions. The intro is such a timeless song, I don't know if Jay has rapped like that since. Jay really lost a step after this album, lyrically.

as a solo album because all of the hype leading up to the release was that it was going to be a Roc Compilation album and I honestly wasn’t excited for that at all because I figured Jay-Z wouldn’t have as much influence. So when he released it as his album I was much more intrigued
and very surprised
by the turn in the sound of the album from his previous release (Soul samples). Definitely was pleasantly surprised because I didn’t really rock with Vol. 3 at all aside from a couple tracks really. Felt he was moving too far into a commercial lane
