Well with a consistently elite qb it's hard to do, just like with any positional player who is consistently elite. Revis isn't competing with his backup either.
But guys like Stafford Ryan Eli Flacco etc that tier definitely should be challenged. And the reason they aren't is the same reason l hate the league for force feeding us qb ad a position of power
A qb is on a team that goes deep and gets to sb or sb win, suddenly qb has indulgence from any competition. This is nonsense, no such thing happens to a corner or wr, even those who were drafted really high. They are judged by their performance. Hence the reason I've never liked the term 'franchise qb' - all it means that he's your guy no matter what. That's a problem, especially if the guy is not playing well.
Yea.... but guys have to "grow" into being ELITE.
Like Brady was a 2 time SB champ and still wasnt considered ELITE..... most guys dont really hit that ELITE level or even qualify for that until atleast their 7-10 season. I recall for a FACT no one thought or would say Big Ben was Elite even 7 years ago.
Its very rare to just walk into football or hell any sport and day one be elite..... Not these NFL players, Not Kobe, not Bron, no one.
Thats the part of letting these guys grow and sticking with them through the good and bad
But just to be clear..... I do see where you're coming from and completely understand what you mean. But we all know there is stress and pressure on being an NFL QB, yet alone being on the squad.
If I had to choose about what I'd want my QB to be concerned about or more focused on between say "some guy taking his job" or "the up coming season, the opponents, the defenses he faces and the strengths and weaknesses of himself and his team"
I'd rather him be in a situation similar to the Brady's, Romos, etc who dont have to worry about someone breathing down their neck and can be a little loose and worry about the other bullshyt.
Its dumb to put this crazy pressure on a guy who has to watch his "comp" go 6 for 10 in a drill and get say 53 yards then he goes say 8 for 10 at 78yds and people want to critique or shyt on the 2 for 10 and over analyze why he didnt get 80 or 85 yards
