Thinking on this further, that is a interesting point.

Keanu Reeves and co made a whole new franchise/Action hero out of thin air.

Idris Elba would rather chase after an established franchise with a white lead.

I know it's "easier" from a certain standpoint (using existing star power for a lucrative high profile role), but I would rather make my own thing and have ownership of it.

The average mainstream Black artist in this period is no longer seen as a pioneering, ground breaking master innovator and creator but just a follower.
We give up all our shyt to the more determined but talentless groups.

We have regressed so bad, we no longer have Black movies at the cinema, we are no longer innovators and leaders in music and dance. The world knew to keep an eye and ear open on those Black folks because they always have something new and fresh, not anymore.
I mean, hiphop itself cannot move forward an inch in 10 years.

The new Blacks also cannot create something from scratch on a low budget. I'd watch a great low budget Black sci fi if the story and acting is good but the special effects are slightly off.
