Now see? You read the article.I didn’t see anything wrong with it really
He’s basically questioning what exactly is a black actor and if the art or process changes because he’s black..
Then he says black actors do have a history of limitations and judgement, so maybe it does.
Sounds like he’s challenging the non-black masses for their stereotyping. Either way, love dude as an actor and this was a good article/interview.
That's a dope ass series in the making. I mean that genuinely. I never gave it any thought. I'm on the flip side with my art. I want to concentrate on our visual self Esteem. Trade in thug culture for warrior culture....harlot society for goddesshood.I want to explore the topic of men (pause)
I just noticed how gender norms are changing fast and how the definitions and traditional role of masculinity in America seemingly changes overnight. I'm really interested in exploring that. It would be a multi year project. I'm especially curious how teenagers and young men are dealing with it. What is masculinity in the modern lens? I want to explore it. During these times there's more and more women entering photography. How do men fit into this picture?
See? I don't want to even touch blackness as a topic at this point. Not that I don't want to photograph black people, but the necessity to always talk about race? I'm over it and I truly find it belittling that I need to speak on it exclusively because I'm black.
My take is, I would be a hypocrite if I only made photos with black people in it. I complain about how black people are represented in photography only to turn around and never shoot white people, Asian people, latinos, Arabs;etc? I'd be a hypocrite. Some of the photographers I look up to that are get to talk about fukking anything they want. They're so free. That's what I want: freedom. I consider blackness to be a chain and a limitation. All power to people that want to speak on those issues don't get me wrong. But I just don't. To me it's a box. This is why I fukked with Andre's flute album so much. For so long in modern times black people have been forced to do one type of thing in our art, often at the behest of other black people. And then here comes Andre doing whatever the fukk he wants. And it's good. And people love it. And it breaks records. Andrew makes a non hip hop album and black people say,"he's a rapper, why isn't he making a rap album?" But is he really just a rapper exclusively? Who said he was? Shouldn't Andre have a say in that? People say Andre is crazy. What I see is a black man that is truly free and unshackled. That's a dope ass series in the making. I mean that genuinely. I never gave it any thought. I'm on the flip side with my art. Deity our heroes of the new and relic our heroes of the old. Make it cool to be of the Diaspora.
And I never really thought about much about my art being black or black art. It just comes with the territory ya know? I don't have a desire to paint any race at all but blacks. I got more brown paints than any color I own lol.
People love putting people in a box. That's why it weirds people out when they see you move on to something new.My take is, I would be a hypocrite if I only made photos with black people in it. A lot of black actors feel this way
Idris and Nia Long said something similar last year
Heard this from some fam in BK also. Always out and about in local spots, good peopleHe's a nice dude in real life. Met him several times on the humble.
That's why Tyler Perry is a goofy ass negro. We tired of living in the white art world. We control nothing. Literally. I say we control visual art as we have actual black galleries and literature...Idris wants to play James Bond.
These Black actors have such a low opinion of Black existence they deem Black roles lesser and want to play cacs, then complain when Black historical figures are portrayed by whitey.
I didn’t see anything wrong with it really

Houston there's a black theater. I want to open a black theater where I settle down. It's a goal. I also want to teach kids to play music instruments again. There's no reason white kids should Maggot Brain and black kids don't.That's why Tyler Perry is a goofy ass negro. We tired of living in the white art world. We control nothing. Literally. But music, theater, sports, business, medicine...we don't control a thing
Well that’s why we need to stop subscribing to this ideology. Just like the one drop rule. Biracial is briracial, not black. And anyone who uses the “most of us are mixed anyway” argument are clowns.in the states, american defaults to white. other nationalities get the hyphenated version. or if your from another country your listed from your country. were the only odd group out.

It is in the film industry.Brainwashed to think black is lesser than
In OP’s defense, he did say he was joking… just not in the title*Really* not liking the clickbait in the title. Opening Wright up to a deluge of misplaced criticism when he’s actually making a lot of sense and on our side
