How long have you been an artist, and have you participated in Black specific projects?
I don't want to do black specific projects because that's all anyone does anymore. Personally, fukk modern black art. I see photographers that are black and 9 times out of 10 if I see their stuff I already know what I'm going to see: protest shots, something about race. It's fukking boring at this point and feels like a giant grift. I lived in NYC and almost every photographer that was black had the same stuff. It's fukking boring. I have no idea what these people think of the world outside of the confines of the topic of blackness. What do they think of God? Morals? Gender? Tradition? What are their values? Back in the day, the black art was far more diverse in terms of topic. Now it's all the same shyt and white liberals use us for their agenda. I feel like if I do a black project I need to do it just once, move on, and never bring up race again. I hate one-dimensional art and how cacs are free to talk about any subject they want to but for whatever reason I have to talk black man plight because I'm black. Tired, tired, tired of it.

I hate black pain porn.

My stuff normally features black people, but not black people exclusively. But I try to go around the topic of blackness. I am inspired by the stuff I grew up with like Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where black was treated as normal. We loved them because we related to them not because they were black. This is why a show like Fresh Prince was universally beloved: it connected with people regardless of skin color. So my stuff is "color blind" so to speak and I try to make black normal by evading the topic of blackness. I take photos of black people living life but it's not about black pain. By making the topic of blackness the main topic in your art you are by extension making blackness to be abnormal. I treat it as normal. I am not interested in black politics. I am interested in the every day tapestry of black people living life in our different shades, viewpoints, and worldviews.

All I know is he had me fooled when he was peoples hernandez in the shaft remake. I thought for sure he was Dominican for sure. Then I turn around and he was MLK in another movie shortly after. Damn good actor. He played the hell out of Dr. Narcisse in Boardwalk Empire too.

This joint is in Texas. To qualify I have to become a member. I've become a member and paid my dues. I have to apply the next time they're taking applications. I'll have to make my own prints. I've never made prints that big so I'll have to take a class on it.

You sound just like me. I swear 2020 was prolly the best moment for black photographers. Unfortunately alot of folk took advantage of it.

I feel you about Black Pain Porn. Esp when getting into white spaces with it. I feel like if it sales to whites, they bought it cause they can't buy the Sambo figurines no more.

Do you have studio? If not..it's gonna be extremely hard due to light leaks. You prolly be better of geauxin to a prof photo developer until you can make a light leak proof lab.

On tha cool man...I'm gifted with all art...and esp painting/drawing...but photography is my fave medium. No one knows that.

It's like alchemy developing your own film and the vinegar smell is invigorating :wow:

This ya first show or you had plenty of em?

This would be my first rodeo. In NYC I knew some cats that knew people and they kept getting exhibits but all they talked about was race. They were taking full advantage of that 2020 stimulus package so to speak but I just don't want to do that.

One of the perks of being a member is being able to use the lab.

I will dm my IG. It's all digital though so don't lose your shyt. Starting to incorporate more film.

White liberals are using black pain to communicate to black people that that's all we are capable of and we live a sad existence. It's why I don't talk about black issues in my work. It's a form of protest. Blackness is being wielded as a tool against us. Check out Lovecraft Country and stuff like that. They are weaponizing blackness to categorize the black identity as one type of existence and that's fear and weakness. Truly disgusting white guilt shyt.

The Truth
I mean American Fiction was pretty much about this idea.
Exactly

Which is why I think he took to/resonated with the role.

He’s basically saying thats what the movie is about. Being labeled in a certain type of light because you’re black and acting out of your character to fit their “caricature” to be successful

2020bwas the year of black art honestly. A white art dealer was hipping me to the game. So much show Basquiat resurgence was fading out somewhat until 2020. So it def was a stimulus for black arts and artists.

Them art show opening is crack addiction like. I remember my 1st solo.

When I paint black pain I want it to be like this what we do in response instead of showing butchered black bodies. Reverse racism.

Hey man if you ever got questions about gallery shyt or anything hit me up. I'm in my 3rd year so far. So I got some what experience.

He’s Wright. :troll:

We don’t use the term white or brown actors. Why should it be any different? Are you a black QB or just a QB who happens to be black?

in the states, american defaults to white. other nationalities get the hyphenated version. or if your from another country your listed from your country. were the only odd group out.

I want to explore the topic of men (pause) :whoa:
:dame:

I just noticed how gender norms are changing fast and how the definitions and traditional role of masculinity in America seemingly changes overnight. I'm really interested in exploring that. It would be a multi year project. I'm especially curious how teenagers and young men are dealing with it. What is masculinity in the modern lens? I want to explore it. During these times there's more and more women entering photography. How do men fit into this picture?

See? I don't want to even touch blackness as a topic at this point. Not that I don't want to photograph black people, but the necessity to always talk about race? I'm over it and I truly find it belittling that I need to speak on it exclusively because I'm black.

The kirk to the fields
Peoples Hernandez is his greatest role, imho.
You can’t tell that breh wasn’t a real Dominican in that movie.

I liked him better as Bernard in West World. He killed it in season 1.

But as a kid I legit thought he was really Latino when he played Peoples.
