CARS ARE WHY THE SOUTH'S MUSIC EXPANDED MORE THAN NYC'S.

I keep telling people.

That DRIVING will change your whole vibe.

It depends on what you're driving for tho. If I'm driving to VA or sumn like I used to do all the time back in the day I'm not really giving a fukk about bumping some cool/popular/hustler shyt with the windows down, I'm more susceptible to actually "listening" to the music.

But if we riding around the mall 4 deep, also something I used to do all the time as a youngin, we playing all the hot fickle shyt like JD was, loud as fukk. All depends. Also can vary depend on what mood you're in when driving.

And how did South music expand more? They all sound exactly the same, lol, generally speaking.

At first I was like BS but then I’m like would a south nikka actually bump this and be on track with it?

:ohhh:

Does North Carolina count as the South?

Always been a Nas fan in Eastern North Cack and everybody I knew was too. People I knew loved Wu Tang, Jay Z, the Fugees, Mobb Deep.

I never heard actual UGK and Eightball and MJG till I visited Atlanta for an event.

Even though the Nas lyrics are cool, this track is just not a great track as far as production.

Unlike other southern places don’t the Carolina and Virginia listen to a lot of up north raps? @newworldafro

People listened to lots of stuff. One friend is Wu Tang head. Another was No Limit feign. Yes. Absolutely, in the 90s as a kid folks were enthusiastic about New York/East Coast rap in Eastern North Carolina.

He literally said "I'm from the South. We wasn't the super hip hip hop, rappity rap crowd" tho. We = The South, he's entailing that Nas was on that real hip hop lyrical shyt and the south was more into that player/cool/fun shyt, which is fine. Not saying he's right or wrong, just saying tho, he's clearly speaking about the South in general.

he said that to paint the backdrop for his own musical tastes; he didn't say that fact stopped the south in totality from appreciating lyrical sh1t

The South is "dumb" yet Goodie Mob prophesied the current era we are living in to the most minute detail on "Cell Therapy" almost exactly 25 years ago.

I'm not from the South. I'm from Cali but been living in the East Coast a long time and I am actually old enough to remember the 90's. No one outside of NYC was checking for Gnause in 94'. The record sales for Illmatic speak volumes. And back in the 90's outside of NY, you had to go to the record store and buy a real copy. Illmatic was NY centric as hell of course no one outside of NY was really fukking with it in the era where Cali rap dominated. The only reason Biggie blew up is because of the heavy sonic and stylistic West Coast influence on Ready to Die. "Big Poppa" was some Bay Area player shyt and "Juicy" was a G-Funk track by definition. Even Puffy admitted he wanted to make an East Coast version of the Chronic with Ready to Die.

People always looked at Nas as a good rapper in the 90's but no one was saying he was the greatest. Especially not when Pac and Big were alive.

Nobody was saying Gnause was goat until after "Ether" dropped in 2001. That's when Illmatic finally went Plat damn near a decade after it came out. Because after Pac and Biggie had died, that left a lot less competition for Gnause and Jay. Pac went at Gnause and Jay throats. Pac made Gnause cry with his disses.

And if we are being honest, there were classics dropping every week in the early to mid 90's mainstream and underground. Gnause music was no better or worse than any of his contemporaries at the time. Just because that pancake face Korean bytch Miss Info gave Illmatic 5 Mics back in 94' while being a music critic at the Source doesn't mean anything. If anything, Gnause style is heavily indebted to those who came before him (i.e. Kool G Rap, Rakim, Gang Starr).

I appreciate him saying this publicly. I'm sure a lot of Southerners were into that Nas/Rakim type of shyt too...but speaking in general I understand what he's saying. That simple, easily digestible content/rapping always shines brighter to the masses because most people aren't that bright and really don't like paying attention for too long.

Talk about sellin dope and rims and clubbin and have swag and shyt. Dudes like shyt that makes them feel cool, it's really that simple, they wanna sing along and feel like it's them talking about themselves, haha. When you in the whip you want chicks/people to see you and hear what you're hearing, cool shyt, I get it..but that shouldn't be the criteria for what makes an MC a G.O.A.T.

Jay-z could actually rap but he also embodied that "simple/shallow" cool shyt too, that's why he shows up in more Top 5's than a Nas, especially in the South. Imagine a Yo Gotti/Young Jeezy or somebody listening to "Halftime", I can't even picture it.

And salute him for naming my guy Push. Been saying Pusha deserves a Top 25 spot for the longest. Top 5 is stupid tho, lol, hell naw.

I agree with you and I can’t knock him.. it’s his list... I’m just confused in the Pusha shyt... not cause pusha can’t spit, but cause he said pusha was speaking his life???? JD was the son of a music exec.... he wasn’t living that life!!! Lmao

JD gave NYC dudes a lot of swag to run with. What are you talking about/

Gave nas hits.

Gave Jay z hits

damn near gave Dipset a remix hit on "NEVA SCARED"

Some of yall legit forget this shyt.

JD is kinda right... when you're riding around and not just doing backpacker shyt, your vibe changes

Nas has 0 hits with JD. "Got Yo Have It" is the closest. "Turn It Out" is dope. That Jagged Edge remix was ok.

Jay Z has 1 hit with JD. JD's work on American Gangster was crazy though.

JD had nothing to do with the "Never Scared" remix.

JD is all kinds of wrong.

Nas only has one classic or really dope record on his album with a big artist and that’s if I ruled...

He lack chemistry when he in control of the content

correct me if I’m wrong
