When you have to build your team to hide your Qb's flaws that just means your QB aint that good. But with that being said, they should keep Sanchez until they no exactly what they have in Geno.

Breh Alex Smith still is trash. Dont let the fantastic run game and defense fool you. The Niners tolerated him, nothing more. I know thats your boy but :stopitslime:

EDIT: Also, keep him on the roster. Don't take a salary cap hit. We will be terrible either way. Might as well let things run their course for this season. Garrard got to go though. Thats a baffling pick up to me.

Breh...I don't think Smith is a QB but he was able to manage games. I think Sanchez could do the same in the right situation...and he did that in the early part of his career. They had a leash on him and didn't ask him to do too much. The Jets situation is more about stupid moves from the coach to the owner to the GM rather than them having a poor QB.

For those saying Smith is better than Sanchez now. Yes..he is. He's an 8 year vet who has had 2 years under one of the best football minds in the league. Give Sanchez 2 years with the 9ers and he'd be a much improved QB IMO.

It's not that. When you draft a QB in the 1st round, you put pieces around him to help him along. You also get him the right OC and put him in the right system. I can't say thsi has happened with Sanchez. So they go draft Gino. They better surround him with talent or else they'll be looking for a new QB in a few years.

I dont really understand why is it so hard for most people to understand this simple concept.
they really think a QB is magically gonna transform their team from bums to beasts with no help on either side of the ball.

overwhelming majority of the most successful QBs drafted in the first round had very good situations around them when they got drafted

jets went to two straight afc championship with sanchez as their qb. clearly they have problems far beyond the qb position nowadays.

You can't change his heart. You can't make him more accurate. You can't make him more of a leader. You can't make him less of a bytch. You can ask him to go above and beyond his limits to see what he can do. The Jets did that and he failed.

If the biggest crime of the Jets is that they couldn't maintain a top 5 defense, running game, and O-Line over the length of a QB's career, then every team is guilty of that.

The Jets didn't ruin the next Aaron Rodgers or the next Cam Newton or the next Brady, Manning, Eli, whoever you want. A bum just proved he was a bum. Give him all the weapons you want, it's not gonna be worth it at the end of the day. It wasn't that for the Jets. The AFC Title games are a distant memory that are now nothing more than 2 more seasons we didn't win it all. What this experiment proves is that if EVERYTHING goes right (good signings, strong D, run game, divine intervention), Fez maxes you out at an AFC Title Game. Not good enough.

Yeah i feel dat but i just feel like people are talking like Sanchez was balling out and then fell off. When the Jets went to them two title games it was in spite of him not because of him. Though he had a few moments here and there.

He wasn't balling out...but he was progressing. Then hit a wall...

I said the same about Alex Smith. He was inaccurate, soft and made too many boneheaded plays. Then he got Harbaugh and all that changed. Harbaugh simplified things for him. Meanwhile who does Sanchez have? Sporano? Schotty?

Who has Sanchez really had? An oft injured TE, a good running game for 1 year. Weak O-line....2 receivers that aren't in the league (Braylon, Plaxico ) and an undersized a$$hole as their number one in Santonio. Then they finish the job by bringing in Tebow and an OC who's best known for the wildcat.

Yea Sanchez should share some blame...but you gotta groom a QB. You don't just abandon ship and let him fend for himself.

Look at what Cincy's done for Daulton. Same with Vikings and Ponder. Hell...Seahawks with Wilson...Panthers with Cam.

If they decided to cut their losses why even sign the guy last year? Either you go all in with him after that contract or you don't and get rid of him.

this aint even about fez in particular, its about the approach and expectations of qbs being drafted.

youre trying to restore a brothel's face by changing a hoe every two years. the problem is theres AIDS in the building and unless you get an immune hoe, who comes once in 70 years, you'll be stuck with a bad brothel.

theres a reason why there are more successful qbs drafted in bottom of the first round historically, as opposed to the top.

the teams that are smart build the rest of the team first, then get their QB and babysit him.
the teams that are dumb draft a new qb every couple of years and play roulette hoping ilke idiots they hit their number

keep waiting on your savior, just know that you mightve had one at some point (and I dont mean fez) but his talent was buried in embryo stage by the rest of the team being inept

you ever wonder why the steelers have two qbs with multiple rings and jets have had one qb with any rings ? hint, its not because the steelers know how to draft qbs better.

and I hate to pound my point here as usual, but you gotta prioritize what you want. either you want your team to qualify as contenders and have a chance at a ring or...get a ring one time by any means.

brad johnson and trent dilfer have as many rings combined as dan marino, peyton manning and steve young

brady ben flacco all came to teams with a storied, great defensive pedigree. brady didnt even start right away. aaron rodgers sat behind favre in a qb-friendly environment for 3 years. drew brees throughout his whole career had one of the most talented offenses and some of the best oc's. so did pip rivers (not that anyone cares nowadays)

you have to have an environment to put qbs in and develop them. otherwise it doesnt matter. aaron rodgers would most likely be a bust if he was drafted by a disfunctional franchise. david carr mightve had several rings with the steelers already. who knows.

smart teams build a team, plugin the qb, build his confidence and teach him the NFL game. then they develop the qb to the point he knows the in and outs of offense and gradually start build around him on offense.

you dont go and take out half of your offense and expect the qb to progress further. you dont go and not draft oline if your oline cant block for shyt, to protect your rookie qb so he ends up scarred for life

the best way for jets is to let geno sit, at least this year; if he is thrown in the fire he wont make it out.
no qb would, aside from MAYBE once-in-a-lifetime-cant miss talent like peyton.

As far as Fez goes, the worst thing to happen to him was early success. The team just didn't think he'd fall to earth following how he played in late games + playoffs. They tried to be conservative with him. They coddled him to death the first 2 years. It was only when he was asked to take on more of a role where he failed. The Jets underperformed, but remember, they were 9-7 the year they drafted Fez and traded up. That team had a running game, an O-Line, a fresh defense. The receivers were ehh, but Fez for the most part had the very things you're talking about. The team was all-in, they had a short window, didn't win, and now we are where we are.

Some of the things that contributed to Fez's failure was shyt they couldn't guess.

Shonn Greene looked good behind Thomas Jones. They gave him more of a role and he sucked. The Jets drafted a project guard in Ducasse to help the O-Line. That guy is an idiot. Keller had potential til Ray Lewis lit him up, and he heard footsteps ever since. D'Brick was an elite LT, and then he got paid. David Harris looked like he was gonna be on some Patrick Willis shyt, then he got paid and got slow. Holmes was clutch. Then he got paid. They couldn't replenish the talent because they continued to trade up so much. All that combined with Fez simply not good enough has led to this.

I agree Geno should sit at least 3/4ths of the year, but this team on paper sucks, so while I like Geno, I wouldn't have taken him simply because he could be the next Jimmy Clausen
