It's not all on Melo that he didn't win a ring but the original trade to New York should have been handled better. If he really wanted to win he would have signed their that offseason for a little less money and they could have kept some of their younger assets. With the way the league ended up going him Danilo Chandler off the bench Amare at center and Felton at guard might have at least made it to the ECF Finals. But other than that he has lost to the better team in the playoffs and hasn't had the talent around him to really compete for a title.

Couple of those Denver teams were good enough to win the title. Boeheim just copping pleas for Melo. :francis:
not really, that's like saying clippers are good enough to win the title this year when clearly warriors, cavs and spurs are above them.

denver had their best squad in 08-09 but the lakers were simply better, and rockets arguably too, denver was a "depending on a huge luck" type of contender, the west was lucky already playing garbage magic cause of celtics missing KG, if somehow denver got hot from 3pt line against LA, then yeah I would take nuggets over magic in the finals too.

The Nuggets were good enough to beat the Lakers in 2009. They just weren't mentally tough enough and couldn't execute in crunch time. Couple games came down to them just properly inbounding the ball. Just throwing the gatdamn ball in. And they couldn't figure that out. It's disgusting to hear this narrative that Melo's teams just weren't good enough. And that Melo was this savior that's been stuck on bad teams. I can't speak for what's happened in NY but when he was in Denver the franchise tried to surround him with talent so that the Nuggets could be a contender. And they did contend. It wasn't luck. They just couldn't get over the hump. If you're going to compare them to a recent team, compare them to last year's Thunder. Just a gatdamn shame.

He's also not nearly good enough to take the most shots for a championship level team.

You have no proof of this lol.

He's never had the talent around him to get it done. Never.

This will be the best team he's ever played for on paper this season. Let's see how it goes if everyone is healthy.

Proof? Look at his efficiency numbers. Melo teams are built for him to take all the shots and have everyone else play defense/rebound etc. Im saying he's not nearly a good enough/efficient enough scorer to play that way.

the lakers won 65 games that year and the nuggets won 54. lol there was no "choke" the lakers were better. The series was over after game 1 anyway. Phil Jackson has NEVER lost a series after winning game 1.

In game 6 the nuggets got blown off of their home court, the lakers were superior

Again:russell: I'm not saying this was an all-time team but the Nuggets 2008-09 team were good enough to win the title. Melo had Billups (better than any current Knick not named Melo easily), JR (immature, streaky shooter), Kenyon (intimidating if undersized defensive anchor and good finisher at the rim), Nene (inconsistent but capable big man), Kleizas (solid scorer off the bench), and Birdman (decent rebounder and good shot blocker). Easy to be dismissive of this talent now but back then they were good enough to give the would-be champion Lakers fits. Stop trying to act like these nikkas sucked.
