this is really vague, but I hate empty, defeatist phrases like "the black community has to be cleaned up" like it's some dirty piece of shyt hovel
the black community is okay
there's room for improvement, as there is in any community
but psychologically, people aren't gonna have any drive to do anything when we even treat ourselves like a fix up job
it's like people's first instinct is to preach about the terrible job we're doing as black people before just being a comrade
no one is showing any pride for the black community
it's like people gave up before they even started
What kills me is people say this "black community needs to.." BS like the Black Community in America has ever had a "Good Ol Days" when things were ok.
The Black Family in America has NEVER been OK.
Blacks have NEVER had a period in America where we could look back and say "this is how marriage should be" because blacks literally went from the Plantation to having to worry every 5 seconds about being lynched by Whites and having resources stolen from then every second.
NO OTHER group in America has had to do this. There was a time when everyone was poor yes but this was what they signed up for when they choose to immigrate to America. Blacks in America did not have a choice to sign up for the live they had to endure.
Things have never been ok in Black America so nobody has the right to point a finger because at the end of the day nobody has done anything to fix the issue, they only criticize the results of the root issue.
Think about it, Young Black Men and Women dont even go through a Rite of Passage process anymore which is how they learn to be Black Adults (well traditionally learn to be Men and Women of their ancestral tribe), yet we expect them to just have it all together, when they dont even have examples to look at of what it is to be a good person.
At this point, while we gotta love our older family members and such all these old folks need to shut the hell up and get the hell out of the way. People like Jim Brown have earned their respect but at the end of the day they dont have the answers and they are talking an outdated talk.
People need to realize while White Supremacy may be on its last leg, Blacks are being set up to be ruled by someone else for the next 500 yrs if we dont adapt. This is bigger than respectability politics, because at the end of the day all this stuff is reactionary acts.
