you have to be batshyt crazy to trade a first and a fourth for a backup qb, but people love them some middling quarter back play and pay a premium for it when its literally all over the place for much cheaper

The obvious thinking here is , he isn't a backup QB.

Belichik picked him to be the successor to Brady, but Brady is still being Brady.

Dude was picked in the 2nd round, that's not a projected backup

This right here. This is like Aaron Rodgers sitting behind Farve, except, Brady hasn't stopped being Brady yet, while Farve started the slide. We at least got a peak behind the curtain of what they see Jimmy G is capable of being and why he was a top 60 pick when Brady got suspended. I knew they were taking a highround QB in that draft, I thought they might take Bridgewater even...Belly has been planning for the future without Brady, and Brissett just echo's that point home even further. He knows Jimmy G is too good to sit on the bench for 5 years behind Brady, but he also knows Brady is one hit away from being retired, so he's hedging his bets at the position.

I also loved Blake Bortles, so maybe I'm just not that fukking bright, but damn, I love me some Jimmy G.

(The Jags need to save Bortles btw, he has ALL the tools to be great)

we've seen this story play out a bunch of times already so as long as the 9ers don't trade for him then that's all that matters.

a first rounder is too much of an opportunity cost imo but if bradford was traded for one then i'm sure some team will bite the bullet on him. i see the cardinals being that team.

But you get one year out of him and will be forced to either pay up or let him walk. A first and a fourth is too steep to see if he works out or not. I'd draft a qb and have him fairly cheap for 3-4 years instead. Same gamble with much better return

That to me is the issue too, he comes with a hefty amount of money you`ll have to pay him

1st rounder, no, but most teams (including SF) would contemplate giving them a 2nd, a 4th and maybe a future pick. I think Garappalo has some real talent, he has a quick release, a rocket arm, and he is clearly well coached. I mean let's be reality Matt Cassel was a starting QB for a decent Kansas City for a few years, and they gave up an early 2nd to get him and an over the hill Mike Vrabel.
