makes zero sense to look at efficiency without considering the volume a player is taking. Isaiah Joe is the league leader in 3 point percentage this season.. Is he the best shooter in the league? He only shoots 2 percentage points higher than Steph but has taken over 200 less shots.

Indeed, it makes sense. Just as it makes sense to take into account the context in which Bird was playing before saying that he isn't a top 3 player :yeshrug:

He's right Larry Bird is not a top three three-point shooter. There is no metric that counters that statement. And three point shooting wasn't Bird’s game.
Naw it’s not that it wasn’t HIS game

It wasn’t the game of basketball at the time

Bird take 7 threes on average a game I’m sure he can hit 3 a game

He’s gonna get killed for this but he’s probably right.

But it’s different eras too. You can say Dan Marino or Montana aren’t top 3 passers of all time too, but that shouldn’t detract from them. was just different eras :yeshrug:

Bird doesn’t even make the top 5

Steph
Klay
Ray
Dame
Reggie

He can’t compete with those players based on Volume and it would be disrespectful to do so….

larry bird is a better shooter than reggie miller and probably ray allen as well, who didn't become a real marksmen until later in his career.
yall wilding lol

Lol Ray was like a top 5 shooter in the league from the time he set foot on the floor. Easily the best shooter of his generation.

Only Peja, Dirk and Nash had an argument. And Ray had way more volume than those guys…

O are we doing that thing where people romanticize the past in order to diminish the player quality and talent of the modern day? Yeah this argument never gets old in here :comeon:

You limit any of those players to 3 3s a game and they'll shoot 50% for the season lol

Thats not how it works, shooting 3's is about catching a rhythm and getting hot like NBA Jam. First two might be bricks, but by the 3rd you have your feel and have corrected. Now its easy to rattle off the next 7 if allowed.

Also its probably alot easier to shoot a high percentage when your not "the guy". Steph has had Klay, and KD,Poole. As other grest offensive threats

That is how it works. As mentioned multiple times in this thread the 3 attempts would be the best looks possible. Steph was shooting his percentages from 3 before any of them emerged or arrived.

Curry, Ray, Reggie are making their first 2 as often as missing the first 2. They'd be shooting 50%.

I didn't even think this was an argument he wasnt.

But who is the top 3 I'm assuming Curry/Allen/Klay?
Reggie instead of Klay for most folks. Korver gotta be in the discussion though. Those other guys all have iconic threes in the playoffs though, Korver missed his shot at one.

jj is wrong. u give Bird more attempts and tell him "u need to shoot more" he's gonna excel at it because Bird excelled at every aspect of the game.
This has always been my thing about these discussions.

The all time players aren’t all time because of talent (though obviously it boosts it) but because of MENTALITY, their work ethic and competitiveness.

You put LeBron in any era, he’s gonna just out prepare and outsmart his peers. In any era Kobe is gonna out work his peers. Jordan and Isiah are gonna out compete their peers. Bird and Magic are gonna our work their peers. Etc, etc. None of the top guys got there by talent or skill alone, their mentalities will set them apart no matter what era you were to place them in. They’d ALL adjust.
