The point is that Medicare for all may not be sustainable in a country with a shrinking tax base, an economy that is shifting away from the middle class (death of manufacturing and retail, automation, etc), and the guarantee of recession at least once a decade.
Maybe it will work. But I've never seen a plan that makes sense economically.

If current illegal immigrants are the issue to approving medicare for all then we can simply start off clean slate. Have whoever is here already register and enter the process towards being a legal citizen. As a country you just increased your tax base, assuming they would have to gain legal employment now. Then you can declare whoever doesn't register by a certain date will not get medicare but instead get a bill to their name.

I really don't understand the basis for this when multiple countries have shown to be able to do this and have provided a blueprint. Is america not a $19-20 trillion economy?? Annually?? Growing the fastest since before 2008?
The only reason any tax base is shrinking is because of bad policy.

The tax base actually grew. The problem is that the tax cuts far exceed tax revenue. When the crash happens, the economy will come to a screeching halt. Then you'll hear the calls for cuts in social spending.

Exactly, it's really fukkin' weird. America always finds a way to go to war withut congressional approval, interfere with other country's affairs covertly, give tax breaks to the richest people in the country and give tax breaks and subsidies to companies/entire industries. But when it comes to helping the vast majority of citizens either through education, improving social programs or not poisoning them with public works all the wonks show up and use flowery big words to talk people out of the government's ability to do it. And it's just dismissed as a coincidence. lol They running game and a lot of people who swear they are smart fall for it.
