It’s Grammy quality just don’t listen to it regularly anymore, like a lot of older albums. This & Documentary should’ve won for Hip Hop.

That’s why it’s not Grammy quality. It was massively successful though. I was caught in the hype when it dropped but it had plenty of faults. Documentary was definitely a Grammy quality album

I’m not speaking on The Way You Move I always give Big Boi his props. But the pop songs aka Andre songs are what brought it to its heights.
And no one thought the Big Boi half was better than GRODT. It’s moments like these where I have to stare at theColi crazy. Bro said “maybe it’s because I was in ATL” unironically as if he realizes in his head that GRODT was clearly the biggest album the year it dropped and created the only rapper doing numbers anywhere near Eminem. But because it holds some sort of personal connection to him he can’t be objective. Speakerbox was diamond because it was a double album - it sold 5 million actually. GRODT outsold it by millions of copies. This isn’t a serious discussion as far as how large each album was and what it did for pop culture.

Like what the fukk are we talking about? In no universe was any rap album in that timeframe bigger and the “Andre” part of that album is why it won. It followed the same theme of Miseducation, which exists to this day - straight up rap album has never won AOTY. If the “rap” on that album was the focal point they would not have AOTY at that juncture. We have a 30 year sample size.

Grodt was more impactful in the street than The Love Below, but The Love Below was much better...

popularity =/= quality

Grodt shouldn't even have received a nomination, thats at best a 6.5 or 7/10 album lol, only classic because of its impact (like 50 cent been saying, everyone was dressing like 50 in the streets)...it was never considered as a masterpiece quality wise.

Didn't deserve a grammy, its a 7/10 project.

It didn't deserve any grammy lol, it wasn't even an acclaimed album to begin with, just a popular one.

It's not even a good album from a pure quality angle. 50 should feel lucky he even got a nomination.

Wasn't even a top 3 album among the nominees lol.

When did hip hop fans start hyping up Speakerboxxx/love below like that :wtf: Album sold well due to radio play but I distinctly remember hip hop fans (and OutKast fans in particular) not fukking with it at all when it came out, aside from singles
Album legitimately had 4 tracks with motion.

Hey yaaa
I like the way you move
She lives in my lap
Prototype

Those are the only songs played by anyone.

Despite that, the feeling was we saw outkast break up in real time. That's why it won.

In real time Trap Muzik was pretty huge for what it was. The co-signs alone got him noticed nationally. I’m Serious had him hit regionally, Trap Muzik had his singles all over the place. 24’s was on Midnight Club. Urban Legend was bigger but he was damn near internationally known at that point. I say that as someone who loved Urban Legend more than I loved Trap Muzik.

In 2003???

I’ll say 04 off the strength of Down With The King.

I like Trap Muzik more Urban Legend.

U could also debate 06 too since that was T.I’s year.

That situation with the guns ruined his momentum.

I still liked T.I vs T.I.P though
