beginning of the album is GREAT but then gets too predictable, reminds me of the mixtape he released after 1999 that just got kinda monotonous. Should have trimmed the album down a little bit too. First listen its a 3/5. I feel tho after a rough day at work I can smoke a cigar sip some cognac and zone out to it :win:

Ima give it a second listen later this week and see

that track with Chronixx tho is :ohlawd:

Listening to this now it's dope so far but 17 tracks seems to be a little too long.

Between this and Lupe though this is a great start to the year..way stronger than last year.

I fukks with Joey Bad Ass hard body

My only issue is I don't ever remember any stand out lines from him. He kinda just raps and all his verses kinda sound like one long verse of rapping. He raps really well from a syllabic perspective and I can tell he has content but no lines or verses ever stand out

i feel the same way but i do hear the talent and ive fukked with dude since the 1999 mixtape so im sure in time he'll improve...i let this rock to and from the gym yesterday..it was some good shyt

Dope album but I won't front at times it does feel like an album
with a bunch of guest appearances of rappers from the 90's it's saving
grace though is that Joey has a very distinct voice.
:mjpls:

OH and the moaning about "Teach Me" is completely unwarranted.
shyt is dope :yeshrug:

His last album didn't just have funk though it was a pretty varied mix
of R&B, Funk, Hip Hop, Rock, even some Jazz is in there.
I think calling it a throwback is inaccurate because you'd be hard pressed
to find a 70's Funk album that sounds like what he put out.
You might find something as equally eclectic from Funkadelic/Parliament though.

I also disagree with "fresher than the underground" here's one cat
that's easily as fresh as Joey and has very smooth production that's
pretty obviously rooted in the East Coast 90's sound. He's also from NY
as well

On top of that guys like Sean Price, Buckshot, and several other current and
past rappers have dropped music that's pretty clearly inspired by the
boom bap records of the 90's.

Found a new album. Thanks breh

This better than the Lupe album too IMO
:mjlol:

Anyway, I'm 6 tracks in, and this guy voice still a little bit too UGH for me, but it's better than Summer Knights I suppose. Its a solid start, Joey's hook ability is still :hovscust: though

could have did with a little trimming but yeah, it's good....really good.

Raury going for the fast Andre flow..nah, son. :camby:
those first 40 odd seconds of Black Beetles are painful.

even though his placements were good i'm glad that Statik wasn't handling the majority of the albums production.
