He has resources he's using, he has Sam Cassell, he gets minutes, he watches film, Wall works on his game but it seems like he isn't smart.
You could basically say that for 90% of the teams.
Player development staff in DC is a joke though starting with Ed Tapscott who is the director and was interim HC after Eddie Jordan was fired in the 2008-2009 season. Ernie Grunfeld at the top making poor draft choices is bad too. Leonsis doesn't seem like he has an idea on how to build a winning basketball team. This isn't the Capitals.
That's the crux of it. I don't think Wall is the type of player you can use to build around, from the ground up (more so particularly in Washington's type of setting - however my perspective would be different if he was on another team) - he needs a winning culture to truly progress. He's not in a place where he's actually forced to better himself, I mean I have no doubt he's been working on his game - but it just seems like he's content on following the progression of the team (moving at a snails pace through lottery status). He wouldn't have the freedom he's had, playing in a system that's nearing the state of being contenders.
In saying all that, the Wizards are 14-13 since he's been back. All hope is not lost.
