Bruh, I used FASFA AND military benefits. Probably took home double what you were. There are pro's and cons to everything you do.

I woke up when I wanted and nobody made me do shyt tho.. I would’ve given up all the money I got just to avoid being told what to do and be a part of any racist us military branch :scust:

nikka you really have no clue wtf you're talking about, do you:mjlol:

Nobody makes you wake up. You get your ass to work or muster when you need to be there and thats it. No one gives a fukk when you go to sleep or wake up in your spare time

Same as a regular job, gotdamn:gucci:

But to OP, if you don't know what you are gonna do post HS, then the military is a great option. It PAYS you to think about what it is you actually want to become.

I cannot stress enough to do school while you are in (free tuition), and do some traveling. The US will always be here, the chance do a tour in (insert country) will not be.

Seeing that you also ball, you will fit in wherever you go. I made my reputation in my first duty station strictly off asking when and where folks were balling at :manny:

Most if not all bases have basketball teams that, if lucky, can travel to other bases and play.

I opposed joining the military as a black man for ideological reasons from the gate
but I didn't know the armed forces basically was just as scummy as corporate america until I randomly watched couple vids like this

Both of those dudes are former military not just random haters
U.S military preys on young desperate men who don't have a lot of opportunity at the moment, you CAN join and be successful but it's just so many dudes who go and it doesn't work out for them just don't seem worth it (that's ignoring the whole imperalist pawn thing too)

Yup, financial aid paid for classes and my GI bill goes in my pocket or vice versa. I make too much now so I'm just using GI bill, but when i first got out of Active Duty i was eating.
How is that possible? So even if you don't work and are a full time student you can get both FASFA and GI bill?

It depends on the branch and your job. Take this from someone who is in right now. If you're joining the marines or Army then yes you are definetly being taken advantage of. If you join the Navy as a non IT or intel rate, you are being taken advantage of. Air force and Navy IT rates live the good life stop trying to spin this thread into a shyt on the military thread :mjlol:. if you're dumb enough to join the Marines or Army then that's on you :hubie:. There's a reason why most Army and Marine recruits are farm boys/girls straight out of high school :francis:.

Man the military is a cesspool that promotes drug use, alcoholism, and bad decisions. Financially is worth it if you play it right but the social effects are real. Also please don’t marry anybody for extra benefits or get a wife or kid while you out there. Also get a counselor or some type of person you can talk to because they basically brainwash you.

It depends on you

Take the asvab first and come back in the thread and ask.

or try to go officer (not sure if that’s possible since you don’t have a degree)

And everyone hollarin “IT” and “Intelligence” when honestly, most of y’all aren’t going to qualify or have the aptitude/patience for IT.

IT isn’t exactly HARD, but it isn’t easy, and especially don’t go CTN if you’re not mentally ready and dedicated to spending 90% of your career infront of computers logically troubleshooting shyt.

There are other jobs out there that are easier that will give you the same pay, same clearances, same job opportunities outside, etc.,

LS is one (storekeeper, shopkeeper, or supplies for you other branches not Navy)

IS is another (Information specialist in the Navy. Basically analysts that are dumb as rocks and basically just the pets of officers)

Etc.

CT is a whole sub-navy jobs with like 7 different rates... some harder than others. CTN, CTO, CTR, CTM, etc.

There are linguistic rates/jobs if you speak different languages. But getting a TS/SCI or secret clearance isn’t as easy as people think either. I used to have one that required taking a polygraph

But the military is just like regular life when it comes to jobs. Take the asvab first and then go from there.
Here is how it is:
If you have average intelligence and aren't afraid of using computers pick:

CTN, IT, or CTR. Do not pick CTT because you might end up on a destroyer (small boy life sucks). You might also end up on a destroyer if you pick IT but ITs on destroyers don't really do much (all they do is chill in their Radio shop).

If you aren't that smart pick: YN, LS, PS or OS. YN and PS are admin rates all they do is push papers. OS's rank fast since their advancement is 100% all the way to second class. That means that you can end up making around 1500 bi weekly (3000 a month) within two years. The downside to OS is that you stand a lot of watches.

If you absolutely do not want to end up on a ship your only chance is CTN. Some people get lucky and get stationed at squadrons.... I would not risk it though. Pick CTN whatever you do.

Don't go nuke. Long ass hours and you are being massively underpaid for something that you could be doing in the civilian world for 100k+. Nukes have the longest hours I have ever seen tbh. They rarely leave the reactor plant :mjlol:.

How is a 18 yr old supposed to know the pros and cons of each branch? That's what the black dude was hinting at in the vid above. The Army/Marines basically trick young naive dudes with promises of chargers and bonuses not telling them the negatives of signing that contract :francis:
Also I assume if there is a "good branch" to be in then there is probably a lot of competition to get into said branches, which means the most desperate people are going be funneled to the worst branches as they might not have the education or guidance to get into the good ones , again the black dude hinted at that in the above video with his depiction of the air force basically requiring you to be of college level intelligence to get in
