The star player doesn't ALWAYS take the shot. Kobe and Jordan won titles from passing the ball to role players in those situations. This only becomes an issue when it's a miss.
Big Shot Bob had to get a first shot at some point.
Big shot bob was mentally tougher than Hill breh. Being in Houston early in his career prolly made him mentally tough.
Again, Hill wanted no parts of that sequence. He didn't want that shot, he didn't want those FTs. You just don't put the game, a road Finals game, in the hands of an inexperienced mentally ill-equipped player. That Cavs play was not drawn up for Hill to win them that game. It's Lebron, he's gotta make it happen, win or lose you can live with him deciding it. Drive/Shoot/get to the line, put it on Bron.
MJ passed the ball typically when he was doubled and also when a play was drawn up for someone like Kerr/Paxson. Kerr wanted those shots, he told MJ "i'll be open, i'll make it''. He was mentally there. Paxson was even mentally tougher by the time he dropped that shot on the Suns, it was their 3rd run to a title. He'd been there before.
And both Kerr/Paxson were only asked to do what they were specialized in, make a jumpshot. They weren't slashing to the basket.
But I guarantee if MJ had the ball w/a 6'3 guy single covering him, he's not making that pass to a mentally weak George Hill to win a road Finals game.
