Pretty much this, they'll go above and beyond for someone they WANT to be champion

Word.

Such b.s.

Whether you wanted a Shelton run or not, you can't use "mic skills" as a reason not to put the title on someone when they got folks like The Great Khalil and Jack Swagger getting runs.

ETA: I love Jeff Hardy but let's call a thing a thing: He's got charisma out the yang but his mic skills are basic AT BEST and a total train wreck at worst. Dude used to flub his lines on the regular.

And Jeff is going back to the main event when he returns, I guarantee unless he gets strike 3. Shelton isn’t that much older and is in the Rhyno spot

if the entertainment booked him like impact booked lashley the past few years and gave him a decent mouthpiece he would have been a good main eventer. also if his moveset played towards his strengths as a legitimate amateur grappler instead of "i'm athletic so I'm going to jump a lot and do 450s even though I'm 240 pounds". they can't give any black wrestlers any sort of logic or nuance or depth or whatever smfh. like why not give the decorated amateur wrestler with legitimate ncaa awards a submission as a finish or have him do crazy-ass rollups? anyways if they booked him as a "prizefighter" and had his "agent" do most of the talking while he does cesaro shyt to his opponents it probably would have made some kind of money.

also mvp not getting a world title is more egregious than l-ton not getting one.

they could've done it when he came back :ld:

my idea was that and have Enzo as his trash talking manager (Cass just got injured around the time). Like a Brock for SD. Brock/Heyman is more traditional, Shelton/Enzo as the Mayweather/McGregor style.

Shelton is excellent on the ground...he made Angle and everyone look like fools in 2003 in the WGTT run. A true beast in the ring with little training.

Two time champion Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler only won the Big Gold Belt tho'... you know, the one everybody says doesn't count when people bring up Booker or Mark? So Ziggler's shyt don't count either...

But seriously, Shelton was the black Lance Storm. shyt, John Morrison was the white Shelton Benjamin. I don't think anyone denies Shelton's skills in the ring, but that's really all he had. That Lesnar/Benjamin comparison gotta go- Lesnar might not be dope on the mic, but it was obvious before he even tried to cut a promo on his own that he was future main-event. Swagger/Benjamin is a much-closer comparison, which I definitely agree- Swagger was never good enough to win any title beyond IC/US. And even with Swagger, he probably wouldn't have won that shyt if he wasn't a new guy at a time when they were tryin' to create them a new star. That shyt happened right when Michaels retired, HHH and Taker started fallin' back, Batista was leaving, Hardy had left, and Edge's neck was hangin' by a string. He wouldn't have touched that shyt otherwise. That was all timing and luck.

Don't get me wrong, there's Black wrestlers that I feel definitely deserved a run at the top, or at least been regular main event level guys. But none of those are Shelton Benjamin.
