they were "underground"and "independent" and "self-made". of course they're not going to be in the same light as their contemporaries who had the machine behind them.

but who's still rocking and influencing today and who isn't?
I mess with them man but people caught on late. I mean Ball and G was more mainstream than them and they ain’t even 100% get the props they deserved. I give them boys props for still going and making money off the new kids who are keeping their music alive.. I can’t give them the best group ever though. My guy Lord Infamous is suuuuuper underrated though

I feel u. I don't rank them as the best BTW. I'm just moving the conversation and honestly think they have a right to stake that claim.

1 of the talking points that bothers me in the booth is how posters jack billboard and #s.

If you lived by that it wouldn't paint the "real" history of this hip-hop shyt.

There are street ball legends who NBA legends are a product of and jacked moves from. The street ball guys will never get the accolades.

Principles...

- groups are a different discussion than duos
- make allowances for the skill-to-broader-impact-slash-legacy ratio

Wu
ATCQ
Geto Boys
NWA
De La Soul
2 Live Crew
Naughty By Nature
Run DMC
Jon + Eastside Boyz
Onyx
Cypress Hill

That's just spitballing some names, I'm forgetting a few or five I'm sure. I'll give 3-6 production/body of work/maaaayybe what you'd call a distinct Memphis "sound"...maybe. Skill? Stop it. Legacy is immense but even with the best of intentions they're not national like that, they're a lot more regional.

So yeah, rep your crew and all that, but...:manny:

I'm a heavy wu-tang head.

that group changed my life and helped form me into the man I am 2day as corny as it sounds.
never really rocked with NWA like that but I'm from the era where VH1 documentaries told me how important they are :russ:

But 2 not be biased wu-tang fell TF off hard. GFK was carrying the torch for a minute. Their influence today is non-existent.

IDK enough about NWA 2 even comment NGL

Yeah I fukked with Wu Tang heavy. 3-6 definitely more relevant right now. I was just randomly listening to Wu Syndicate last week thinking to myself, I’m probably the only nikka on earth listening to Wu Syndicate right now lol

At the same time, you can't just dismiss the numbers because the numbers still tell a story for better or worse.

do they? hammer did a billion and he's in no1s top 5.

Hammer is a bad example because he only sold that amount once and while had 1-2 other multi-platinum albums, his success was short lived. At the same time, if there's artists who continued to sell well over five years especially over a decade, that simply can't be dismissed.

Breh even if duos counted I'd still have 36 as the GOAT.

But this is about GROUPS not duos. Please leave Outkast, 8B&MJG, nem out of this. What GROUP is better?

all you flabby lyrical miracle fukks can skip this post, but for dudes who was outside let me remind you

This shyt is the GOAT whoopanikkaass track && it ain't even close. Not even down for my nikkas can fukk wit it.

I've never done lean in my life, have still felt this in my soul since elementary school.

:birdman:

:demonic:

I could do this forever. Most of their hits aren't even well known, but I was there. Bearshare, Kazaa, Limewire, after school digesting all the demonic energy. It was a guilty pleasure but yeah these dudes got it

I mean if u wanna play this game I could list a whole lot more who had zero cultural impact and were frauds in my eyes; sold a zillion tho :hubie:

"you sold platinum round the world; I sold wood in the hood" :dame:

shoutout marketing teams n payola but that shyt irellevant in my eyes.
