Rap has been carried by the underground and Indie scene for quite some time.
As long as you focus on that, you'll always find quality. The same is true for the other "bad" years as well.
But, mainstream wise, rap was definitely at its worst in 2023. This is even reflected in the decline in sales too. Outside Utopia, female/thot rap anthems, and "Rich Baby Daddy"(which lowkey falls under the previous category), mainstream rap basically came and went this year.

Magic 2 and 3 is all I needed
Magic 3 was everything to me this year. Not many other things hit. Little Brother blessed me with 2 nice singles and a doc. I can't remember much else that really moved me. I need to go back and check

2014 sucked. 2023 doesn’t even have an album on that level. Not one. Worst year ever.
