With the little semblance of culture that we do have deviation tends to be ostracization. Right or wrong in the eyes of whomever every group of people have their rules of engagement and because black people here specifically have been so long separated from something solid-like what African tribes have you don't even realize this shyt is commonplace. sidenote: If you're family is from Jamaica and you were born in a foreign land and you go to Jamaica for the first time and you talk it's literally a guarantee that you'll be made fun of because of how you speak different. If you grew up in Jamaica and move to a foreign land and come back for the first time in like 6-months and start speaking with accent of the people of the country you we're living in you'll get made fun of and get told that you're twanging(trying to sound like a foreigner). People aren't shaming blacks for not having deep voices they're shaming them for imitating white speak, for instance there are Asian "twinkies" who have grown to imitate whites until it has become normal but they are still referred to as "twinkies" because they are still Asian people who exhibit qualities that are of white culture whether they're trying to or not that is what they're doing. This is the same with blacks. Just because someone grows up with another culture does not mean that they somehow are impervious of "talking white" yeah it may come natural now since they're saturated in that culture but they are still imitating that way of speaking which they benefit from because white culture is the default culture in America. I don't know...from the looks of some of the comments in here, it seems like this is more about excluding people from what is considered being "authentically black" because they can't relate to them from some reason or another. If isn't about speech and intonation--it's about music choice, someone's taste in hobbies, the choice of school someone attends or the political affiliation that they have. Anything that deviates from what they define as "black" is automatically seen as less-than and ridiculed as such. this thread is just another example of that.

lol I just find it ironic that you keep mentioning "Asian twinkies" (something I never heard with the exception to a movie) thereby justifying this type of behavior, while failing to acknowledge that Asians are much less diverse than blacks in this country. They are much more homogenous and the people wihin the culture are very similar to one another with really no cultural influence or overlap between themselves and other races from one generation to the next. This isn't the case with blacks. Black People in Mississippi have much more in common with whites in Mississippi than they do with Blacks in Boston or somewhere in Connecticut, but yet they are still both "black" in my eyes despite the fact that they sound different ad live differently.

Now you keep saying "Asians do it too...."insinuating that it makes it ok.....but if I were to compare black and Asian neighborhoods, and come to the conclusion that Asian neighborhoods are less violent, upwardly mobile, more industrious and generally more educated...but black ones generally aren't...you (and many others) would say "hey....how can you compare the two? They have a TOTALLY different history in this country." But for some odd reason you think it's fair to compare them in this situation...ok.

And there is no way to talk "black" that's my point. Tone and bass within someone's voice of normally biometrical with height and weight.Not only that, but blacks are too diverse regionally, and class wise to even make the argument. What's oddly funny is that to most people (other blacks included) when someone uses ALOT of slang and cussing like "muddafukka" and "ya kna mean"...no one ever thinks them as not talking "black."
