If it's the beast use fire and work on the timing of your dodge. If it's father gas parry during first phase and use the music box when he transforms and attack while he is confused...

how you need to fight hasn't clicked for you yet. keep at it. Don't be the aggressor. React to their attacks...

man im about to throw this game in the sewer. the first level is hard as fukk and i didn't even get to the boss yet. i chose an axe as my weapon i should of used the cane. i done thrown all my molotov cocktails. holy shyt this game is hard. i died 50 times in 10 minutes

i then tried running past everyone :heh:

The first level is extremely hard but the game is trying to teach you about how to play it.

-Don't try to fight multiple enemies on their terms. Use pebbles to draw single enemies out of large groups.

-Don't button mash. You can't cancel out of attacks after you start it, you're committed. Gauge your surroundings.

-Running or retreating isn't a bad choice. Don't be ashamed.

-Don't be afraid to dodge INTO enemies. Your dodge has some pretty good I-Frames.

-Your gun is useful. It doesn't do damage but it can stun enemies to give you breathing room plus most enemies can be parried. Learn the windows.

the big beast

He's not that bad. The camera is the biggest issue. Stay close to him, at his legs. Aim for a limb and cripple it, he'll take extra damage till he regenerates.

If you want to stay far, learn to bait his jumping slam attack, hit him, and then back off.

Yeah, he's optional, but I'll give you a tip: beasts in this game are susceptible to fire (molotovs) and serrated weapons (saw spear & saw cleaver, to start. Hell, I think the chain form of the cane does extra damage too). I think I remember you saying you started with the hammer? You can find one of them saw weapons in the sewers though IIRC (I'm thinking it's on one of the cross beams. Or something hanging from the ceiling). It's been awhile, so can't remember exactly.

If you stick with it and start fukking with gems, one thing I did was hook up the saw spear (my 2nd or 3rd favorite weapon) with fire gems. That way when you're fighting beasts, you give 'em the double whammy of the serrated blade and fire. Gonna fukk around and have me going back and playing this again. shyt.

i heard the first level is the hardest and it gets easier. is this true?
Eh, I think ppl just think it gets easier because they figure out how to play the game. There's some really tough parts, and some pretty hard bosses (especially if you play the DLC). Just keep an eye out for shortcuts. Every level has a shortcut or two that will make it so you don't have to fight through the entire level every time you die.

Yeah, I started with the Cane and it was cool, but once I got the Saw Spear, then Ludwig's Sword, those were my go-to weapons until I got the Blade of Mercy, which quickly turned into my favorite weapon in the game. I never used the Axe, so I I don't know how effective it is, but you should be able to get enough echoes to either buy a different weapon, or find one. Like I said, one of them Saw weapons is somewhere in the sewer.
