Because when I’m cooking for myself I’m doing it for sustenance and I want it to be as convenient as possible. If I’m cooking for a date it’s not merely sustenance...it’s experience, bonding, and etc hence why I bring out a finer grade of utensils. It’s like drinking champagne...you can drink it out of a coffee mug but it changes the experience hence why it’s preferable to drink it out of a champagne flute. It’s nuance...

See, from a males perspective, this is perfectly sound behavior, so I'm not expecting us to agree. My point is that women are taught, more than men are, to pay attention to the details.

For instance, I mail people holiday cards. Most of my friends are females, but if they are married I always put the husband's name first as courtesy. I buy decent quality cards, so they don't bend after opening, and just little stuff like that.

If I invited a man over to cook for me, I would have set a formal table, including a center piece with fresh flowers and probably some corny dinner candles.

this goes to the mindset of what some say .. trying to impress the other party.. not saying you are .. but just generally speaking.

decent cards means you're not cheap .. because people talk..

like when family comes over, you take out the good china.
you actually take the cover off the sofa, etc..
