What do you do? I mean, if the position requires contact with students or prospective students, then it doesn't surprise me that they would want someone who was bilingual to speak with both English and Spanish students.
Considering that you are in Miami, balls deep in Cuban territory, don't you think knowing Spanish would be of some usefulness?

Miami is a nice city but you're correct. If you want to get paid, sometimes you have to pack your bags like vacations.

Well, I see what you are saying. There's an expectation for a student applying for an English-speaking college to speak English. It's possible that English is their secondary language and it may be a deal breaker if the student does not have a Spanish-speaking "whatever job that you didn't get" representative.

Good luck in the future. Don't let it get to you. If it helps any, sometimes it is worth being a suck-up/brown noser if it helps your career path.
