Shot in the dark a friend asked me for some Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee in Colombia.

I told him I cant see them importing much coffee even though they may have some around here somewhere.

There’s gotta be some in London that can be sent to Thailand.

The vendors will leave you alone if you are firm, but they work the sympathy card.

The vendors were calling us cousin and Pelenque because we are black. They will extort you ok the beach tho so be prepared to haggle

I can’t imagine you would find blue mountain coffee here as they grow their own.

Thailand has their own coffee or what they get from Vietnam. If I’m correct Vietnamese coffee is better than blue mountain I’ve heard.

Have the passport bros ruined it for black men from America? I was in Bogata and Carta in 2017 and had a blast. Didn’t even trick since I was there with a mixed crowd of friends and family. I was prepositioned a bunch though.

That’s before the passport bros blew up the spot so I’m curious how it is now.

I only really encountered the passport bros in the airport or glimpsed them in passing. However as I said they roll deep and are very loud and attract a lot of attention. Everyone was looking at them because they were shouting, jumping on the conveyor belt, grabbing on the chicks in the club. It was a lot to witness and kinda over stimulating. It makes you a target because you stand out so much. I get your having a good time but don’t be so conspicuous. I would say go with a group of 3 max.

Did you visit getsemani and eat at morena while you were there?

I stayed in Getsêmani, the vibe is nice and plenty of activities in the centre which is near by. I would recommend staying there as it’s walkable to the docks and to the centre of town. The walled city is also really nice but way more expensive.

I went to Morena origines, it wasn’t bad, there is another one in Boca Grande that we didn’t get to go to.

I went on a food tour and they recommend a tonne of restaurants. Including Cande which was upscale Colombian food, great for a celebration. Espiritu Santos ( a lot of locals eat there) and San Nicholas where the locals seem to go to for celebrations. I can post pics if you would like.

I would also recommend a food tour, I can also post the activity provider of the ones I did. But get your guide is the app I used: I’ve used it in many countries.

Cassava is in everything and seems
To be their favourite starch next to corn. It’s a great destination if you are Gluten free or a celiac as most of the stuff is made from corn or cassava with little flour.

Lol, this thread topic comes up a few times a year on here. I went to the spots mentioned 12 years ago. Here is my take:
- Cartegena had a lot of black folks there due to it being a former slave port and folks just settling there. The infrastructure at the time was a little. rough. Constant flooding when it rained, but it seemed to be the norm, so people kept it moving. Old cartegena was cool, and food was really cheap due to the USD conversion was so much more. Very laid back. I went jetskiing out there and almost jetskiied to Trinidad. The people who ran the rental had to chase me down in the ocean and told me to turn back.
- Medellin was great too, pretty spread out. We took the trains from one side of the city to the other, then cable cars up in the favelas. The trains were so much better than NYC trains. Medellin is hilly. Its a major city along with Bogata, both have a mix of everything. To me, the thing Bogota had over Medellin was more of an art scene. I'm more into that stuff. We also was outside a soccer stadium in Medellin with 2 local teams playing against each other and saw fight happening outside.
Also was with my wife, so no hookers. I do remember though, french fries is offered with damn near all meals. We went to a few fancy spots, but the best was in Bogota. Me and the wife had damn near all their best cuts of meat, good drinks and the bill was only $75USD. Also, at the time I went, you had to know Spanish to get a better feel of things. I'm sure a lot has changed out there since 2013.

I guess Cartagena is a lot more built up than before. The flooding still happens tho. The conversion is still pretty cheap for food.

Medellin is very hilly if it says it’s a 4 min walk it’s really 12. I took the train as part of my communa 13 tour, they were clean and the network seemed straight forward.
