I agree the PR stuff was to blame. But the only reason they had the PR problems is because they and the rest of the industry is/was too afraid to confront the Internet fanboy straight up. So Microsoft tried to sneak it in. Then when the Internet blew up, all of their "partners" threw them under the bus.
This.
All jokes aside, MS fukked up from the BEGINNING. They let rumors continue to gather steam (no pun intended) and said nothing. Then when the rumors ended up being true, every MS exec was saying something either different or more retarded about similar topics and shyt.
- No one competent individual was put out front to explain how this shyt would benefit gamers.
- Mattrick pretty much "shytting" on those with no internet who were going to be left behind and being smuggish/douchey about it.
- Not giving an option of some kind to be able to play your disc just for whatever reason the internet went dent. If you buy something you should be able to play at least the single player in some kind of way. They could have done something.
- Major Nelson is a PR tool at this point. His credibility is garbage now.
- MS "trust" rep has been damaged
You just can't go fro 0-60 with making pretty much an online only console or trying to implement your own version of steam without explaining all the benefits. Truth be told, I don't even think they knew everything they were going to do or wanted to do. From the MS execs comments, shyt sounded all over the place. Think about how many messages we heard about how game sharing was going to work and game trading/selling of digital licenses. Something like that should have been organized and put out front from the start. Of course they can say "it would have worked like this...etc.", but really, it's easy to say that shyt AFTER you've canned it. There's no way that 10 people would have been able to play off 1 "bought" copy/license. Anyone with a brain knows that is
. But the "potential" to get reduced prices on games would have been there. They were too reactionary for the most part instead of putting it out in the open from the beginning to quell the negativity and now they look like chumps doing so. MS bungled this whole situation man. And I do agree with you that the benefits could have been great. So even though you are in the minority, you have a right to be mad with alot of that shyt getting cancelled. I'm riding with you on being pissed about that. nikkaz are dumb and didn't see the benefits. I was planning on keeping one of my Xbox 1s if the game sharing was legit, but again, what could you do with it? The message changed almost daily up till cancellation.
MS is at a situation now where the only "advantage" they have are their exclusives and kinect (only to some with kinect). You have a console that is more expensive but weaker spec wise than the competition and your respect is tarnished.
When those numbers roll in and they sell under forecast, not if, but when, someone is gonna take the fall...and it's gonna be Mattrick.
The shyt was like Sony 2006 with MS but only worse....and Mattrick needs to go for spearheading the fukkin up. He tossed the Xbox brand rep in the bushes with horrible communication to the masses about how dope shyt could have been.
I still say they should be able to give some of the dope shyt back if you buy and download the digital versions or once you install your game, "register" it as a download version to enable sharing and the instant game switching somehow.
