I agree the PR stuff was to blame. But the only reason they had the PR problems is because they and the rest of the industry is/was too afraid to confront the Internet fanboy straight up. So Microsoft tried to sneak it in. Then when the Internet blew up, all of their "partners" threw them under the bus.

This.

All jokes aside, MS fukked up from the BEGINNING. They let rumors continue to gather steam (no pun intended) and said nothing. Then when the rumors ended up being true, every MS exec was saying something either different or more retarded about similar topics and shyt.

- No one competent individual was put out front to explain how this shyt would benefit gamers.

- Mattrick pretty much "shytting" on those with no internet who were going to be left behind and being smuggish/douchey about it.

- Not giving an option of some kind to be able to play your disc just for whatever reason the internet went dent. If you buy something you should be able to play at least the single player in some kind of way. They could have done something.

- Major Nelson is a PR tool at this point. His credibility is garbage now.

- MS "trust" rep has been damaged

You just can't go fro 0-60 with making pretty much an online only console or trying to implement your own version of steam without explaining all the benefits. Truth be told, I don't even think they knew everything they were going to do or wanted to do. From the MS execs comments, shyt sounded all over the place. Think about how many messages we heard about how game sharing was going to work and game trading/selling of digital licenses. Something like that should have been organized and put out front from the start. Of course they can say "it would have worked like this...etc.", but really, it's easy to say that shyt AFTER you've canned it. There's no way that 10 people would have been able to play off 1 "bought" copy/license. Anyone with a brain knows that is :duck: . But the "potential" to get reduced prices on games would have been there. They were too reactionary for the most part instead of putting it out in the open from the beginning to quell the negativity and now they look like chumps doing so.

MS bungled this whole situation man. And I do agree with you that the benefits could have been great. So even though you are in the minority, you have a right to be mad with alot of that shyt getting cancelled. I'm riding with you on being pissed about that. nikkaz are dumb and didn't see the benefits. I was planning on keeping one of my Xbox 1s if the game sharing was legit, but again, what could you do with it? The message changed almost daily up till cancellation.

MS is at a situation now where the only "advantage" they have are their exclusives and kinect (only to some with kinect). You have a console that is more expensive but weaker spec wise than the competition and your respect is tarnished.

When those numbers roll in and they sell under forecast, not if, but when, someone is gonna take the fall...and it's gonna be Mattrick.

The shyt was like Sony 2006 with MS but only worse....and Mattrick needs to go for spearheading the fukkin up. He tossed the Xbox brand rep in the bushes with horrible communication to the masses about how dope shyt could have been.

I still say they should be able to give some of the dope shyt back if you buy and download the digital versions or once you install your game, "register" it as a download version to enable sharing and the instant game switching somehow.

Not even sure what your trying to say here.

There was also reports of GameStop steering people away from buying the Xbox one.

We saved GameStop and sent the industry further down its downward spiral.:snoop:

MS def saved them 100% but if I'm Gamestop, why would I ever trust MS again when they were trying to :foot: me? I'd still push the competition on the sly.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
If people such as yourself would stop to anylize the situation you'd realize that your "choice" was totaly influenced by GameStop. And the things you thought you were fighting for were more ideology than impact to your gaming experience.

:mjpls:

So $399 vs $499(kinect required) was all part of some grand Gamestop scheme??

Man shut yo trolling ass up "ANYLIZE" DEEZ NUTS :bryan:

Don't care. Would prefer to own physical copies of stuff I own.

Also, gamestop isn't the only place you can buy used games from you idiots

I don't even use those clowns. I sell privately. Again, if MS was being truthful about being able to sell/trade your digital copy, that would have been GREAT. one of the main reasons I prefer the disc is that I can recoup some costs when I'm done with a game. There is no excuse for not being able to play something you bought for single player if the internet is down. MS could have allowed something where your home console was able to play offline for single player for the "initial" install.

That's totaly understandable. I have no problem with a person such as yourself bringing up these concerns. But in reality 99% of the people on the Internet complaining about X1 restrictions would have had no problem meeting them.

I have an imported copy of Dead Space 1 for my PS3 I copped off Craigslist. Region locking is kinda wack esp since it's not hurting the console maker or publisher in any way. :yeshrug:

$100 dollars is not what made them change their policies. And it is not why ps4 preorders were winning. People were preordering shyt before they even knew what the price was.

Agreed.

It was the cheaper price, lesser restrictions, and less horrible PR that was causing the severe disparity in preorders. Problem now fam is that the damage is done. I think MS will lose in the only area that they legitimately had a chance to win next gen because of their own mistakes. They were already going to lose outside of North America, but it's pretty much a given that they are going to sell less here.

:rudy:

So ps4 preorders didn't skyrocket for PS4 AFTER E3 WHERE THE CONSOLE PRICES WERE ANNOUNCED??

You expect to be taken seriously but wont acknowledge a $100 price difference isn't a huge factor in pre order sales

Region locking was NEVER a hot topic until the Internet decided it was important. Yes you have an import copy of dead space but there are plenty of $8 copies of dead space down at your local Wal Mart. Region locking wouldn't have hurt your gaming experiences.

And region locking does effect publishers. Games are priced differently in different regions. A publisher may have to charge a certain price in a certain region in order to turn a profit, but by leaving the games unlocked people can get around that and purchase a cheaper version of the game, undermining the profitability of that game in that region.

Games are usually more expensive in other regions. My Dead Space copy was USED. Copped from a military cat who was overseas in Europe. And this was around 3 months after the game came out, not recent.

Anyway, buying an imported copy doesn't hurt a publisher at all. If anything, they'd make more.

Microsoft thought that they'd have a dance partner in Sony to implement this stuff, once it showed that they didn't, they had to lean back. Microsoft and Sony are after the same goal. Don't get it twisted with the millions of proprietary memory card formats that Sony has come out with for years was all out of love for consumers. They want to get people invested in their ecosystem and away from others. Microsoft was just way more blatant and out in the open with it. Also, Don Mattrick is a dumbass, Phil Spencer seems to be an ok dude.

I agree with this right here. I see what a lot of folks are saying, but the reality is that brick and mortar stores Best Buy, Gamestop, Target, and Walmart buy game consoles like the PS4 and the XBone at the same price they sell them for. There is a zero dollar profit on console sales and once you consider returns and all that there's actually a loss... more sales would mean more loss... But they make profit back on games and accessories. Why would Gamestop (which is damn near one step above a sleazy pawn shop in my book) even bother with a system that's not gonna make them any money.

Microsoft came in like shot callers and got hit with the :usure:

It was never about no internet outrage, it was about loss market share from low pre sales and lack of retail enthusiasm.

I'm still rolling with the xbox though.

Right. Which is why they would buy the games from America. Which in turn reduces the profitability of games in their own region.

The price difference isn't there to justify importing an american copy because of shipping bruh. The prices would have to be 10 bux at least more than our prices to justify it and they are not. shipping costs are too high as well.

Where region locking is key is in areas where games aren't published in certain areas. I sold my copy of NCAA 12 to someone on Ebay because the game wasn't published in his area. This is where no region lock helps. :tu:

I understand it helps some people. But at what cost?

Problem is Sony never planned on doing online DRM. They've said it from the beginning but cats continue to gloss over that fact. They know that not every PS customer has the ability to go online. It's why they will build in recent firmware versions on newer games to keep those cats with limited or no internet access up to date with firmware.

Mattrick should definitely be held accountable for his fukk ups and diarrhea of the mouth.

People act like we cant' download day 1 digital NOW and have discounts on games. We also get 1 hour time trials on new games too. All of this is currently on PS Plus.
