I know it removes the financial incentive but I dont think it will stop or slow down police from disproportionately targeting and locking up black folksRemove the financial incentive to put folks in jail.

It won't correct the proportion, but it should lower the numbers overall.I know it removes the financial incentive but I dont think it will stop or slow down police from disproportionately targeting and locking up black folksIm trying to find a reason to celebrate lol
Michael Jordan is literallyanybody who invested in private prisons just LOST.

so what happens to all those privatized prisons?
So states can still have their own private prisons, right?![]()
I've been saying for years that America is the dumb little brother when it comes to prison population in relation to the economics. Other Western nations have been through this shyt hundreds of years ago. They saw the error and the economical burden it put on their nations and made the appropriate adjustments to change how their prison system was ran. 10 years ago the gov told Schwarzenegger to lower the prison pop by releasing 50k I think because California couldnt afford it and the Feds werent going to loan them any more money. Then they did the same to Illinois 6yrs ago and both these states had the largest deficits in the country. Every other major nation understood long ago that you cant imprison millions of your population simply for monetary gain or society will suffer. 'Merica didnt listen because it was mostly black people they were targeting and we werent treated as citizens.Exactly. The government has it in their best interest to keep the prison pop low since we are footing the bill. Not that we're still not for private prisons, but they have contracts stating they'll run at certain capacity. There have even been cases of them receiving funds because the prison pop was too low. WTF is that?!
Anyhoo...
I won't get too excited yet, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
