i agree and this is where the focus needs to be. there are a lot of voices talking about reparations, but i don't hear or see any of them doing grass roots work, lobbying, or organizing. i can guarantee the reparations movement will be taken more seriously when people actually start putting in work. i can support that.
This. This is why a class action lawsuit filed against the government is necessary. The case would stand on merit - that's how other communities started the process.

Those who live off the reservations and still get checks aren't getting paid directly from the federal government, but from the casino owners and family members.

I'm not, this thread is premised on stupidity. I'm well-past aware that any group can be the specific target of legislation.

Japanese-Americans (none of the non-citizens who'd been interned were included) who had been interned got paid. At the behest of the Japanese-American Citizens League and numerous allied politicians. It was direct payments to those affected.

Native reparations go to independent reservations (which are nations, acting in place of the US states that surround them).

Jews got reparations from France that the US dispersed to Holocaust victims and their direct descendants.

We have neither a federal agency, a nation-state to pressure the US, nor a nation we ourselves exist in.
Comparisons are foolish; we craft our reasoning and our methods for lobbying independently of other groups.

Federal officials are working to send out $1,000 checks in the next few weeks to hundreds of thousands of Native Americans. The money stems from a settlement of the Cobell case, a landmark $3.4 billion settlement over mismanagement of federal lands held in trust for Native American people.

The case was brought by Elouise Cobell, a member of Montana's Blackfeet Tribe, and four other Native Americans in 1996.
(it took over 20 yrs for that case but they did receive funds directly. Not only that, but this set a precedent for future lawsuits ie, the topic of the thread).
Of the $3.4 billion settlement, $60 million goes into a school scholarship fund for Native Americans. This week, Interior officials also announced broad reforms that make it easier to build a home or business on trust land.

You just like your boy @Deangelo B. trying to compare our struggles. There are Natives who CHOOSE to live in the hood. But can AA choose to live on reservations?
@Thomas is a hatian AntiADOS. He doesn't share our struggle, he is a law student in the boule.

He just likes to cause confusion in ADOS topics

They have a few settlements they just won.

I’m not comparing a struggle... I just dnt participate in the oppression Olympics.

I do what I got to do.

We not even making the most of our recourses im America we have now. We have other immigrants literally dieing to be in a position like us. I feel like we spend too much worrying about what we could get then worrying about what we already have.

I'm not comparing shyt, and I'm specifically arguing against comparing shyt.

And no, which is why comparing Native reparations to our struggle for reparations is so foolhardy, its a completely different fight.

“Same for AAs in the hood right? We "choose" to be here. Why not just move to those lovely affluent White suburbs instead of staying with our families and communities, right?“ - yep this proves that you aren’t comparing :beli:

Good for you. This isn’t struggle olympics it’s about equality and what’s owed to us.

Do it then.

You are a concern troll.

Stop using Oppression Olympics -- it's coded White Supremacist language.

In 1993, the phrase "oppression olympics" was coined by feminist author and activist Elizabeth "Betita" Martínez to challenge the idea of the "hierarchy of oppressions" when addressing inequalities faced by minorities.[13]

Yes. Exactly - Can't even keep up with all the settlements they've won over these past few years. That was just one example. I think the aggregated amount that they've won is at or a close to a billion.

Mostly them treating eachother like shyt. We don’t get sympathy for the same thing, so why should they.
It's embarrassing people are talking like they're jealous about this. :mindblown:

Native Americans have to live in some of the most fukked up systems in America. They get shot by cops at an even higher rate than brehs do and there are some places where close to 100% of Native women have been sexually assaulted. In some of those spots you can pretty much assault a Native woman and KNOW that law enforcement won't do shyt about it no matter what, it's that bad.

Any of ya'all ever been to a reservation? Talking like you would rather be them. :mjlol:

what they eat don't make us shyt.

unless people start organizing and lobbying for reparations all we'll see is disappointment at what other groups are getting.

good for them though. they have an organized strategy for securing grants to improve law enforcement and services for victims of crime. perhaps there's a model there that can be followed?
fukk all that 'strategy' shyt :camby: we're owed. They're supposed to give it to us cuz it's in the media right now.
