How is it racist??? Students who don't have the qualifications to get into a certain school are more likely to struggle than those that do. That applies to students of every color but in this case he was referring to black students because they were discussing race based affirmative action.
Scalia wasn't referring to all black students.......he was referring to black students who get into a certain college solely through affirmative action.
Certain people get in due to letter of recommendations and because they can pay 50k per year or because they have expensive SAT tutors.
Alternative entrences are already promoted, either we have grades and nothing else or we explore options. According to science, race and intelligence are completely uncorrelated, therefore it's pretty understandable if a person from a bad school system, poor home but
nearly gets into Harvard is given a chance to develop at Harvard. They are not trying to find shytty students, they are trying to find unpolished diamonds that would've been brilliant applicants if they were born in the right place.
Studying say economics at Harvard is not much harder than doing it at Ohio State, same book, nearly identical exams. So that "qualification" thing is irrelevant, they are not accepting people with 2.0 gpa's.
