Also, I'm personally not that big of a fan of Affirmative Action to be honest. Hesitant to admit it out of fear of being called a c00n lol but sincerely, I think colleges are fairly liberal these days that I don't fear that if they weren't able to utilize race an admission factor, that schools would start to target black applicants for discrimination. I feel fairly confident in that being the case since a lot of these schools are sending briefs to the Surpreme Court to encourage them to maintain AA. Quite frankly, unless its an IVY where they may do interviews, I see no problem with a color blind admissions policy.

The concern about equal opportunity to colleges due to income and prior education access challenges are valid. However, with race being an independent determining factor, it doesn't account for an individual who is a minority but grew up in a good school district and equal opportunities as their non-minority peers. I understand the admissions process is pretty holistic already but replacing race with an amalgamation of other traits like I mentioned above I think is a more fair assessment of whether to admit student A over student B.

How does this make sense breh. I'm serious. When did the Jews go through hundreds of years of slavery in Germany. Come on now, man. You can't compare the two they are on totally different levels.

Easy there breh. What I mean is increasingly hostile and racist language is becoming normal and it's coming from prominent figures. This is mimicking the same slow build up of hostilities in early Nazi Germany.

Yea, its easier with example.

black kid with 3.8 gpa and 1800 SAT goes somewhere where the average SAT is 2200. He will get destroyed by the bell curve. Has nothing to do with race. Black kids get 2400 too. So now, this kid is in his second semester at MIT with a low GPA. He now leaves the computer science major to switch to sociology, where he curve doe not kill him, loses confidence, drops out, whatever.

Send the same kid to a state school with an 1800 average SAT. His work ethic helps him succeed, and is actually noticed. He can get research opportunities(everyone goes for them at the top school) because people will actually apreciate a hard worker. He finished the first semester with a 3.5, and has developed his study skills. Hes confident, and goes on to get a degree in computer engineering.

The 3.8 gpa 1800 SAT kid fails out of MIT and graduates with honors from UAlbany.

Second black kid. 2200 SAT from a shytty family. 3.0 gpa in high school with barely 50 percent attendance. The top schools will label him lazy. He will go to a state school and be surrounded by people far below his ability level. This could lead to a lot of different outcomes, but in the end he should be at a top school if not for family circumstance. IMO this should be the point of AA.

The first example is a phenomena Malcolm Gladwell and Thomas Sowell have written about. "Outliers" by Gladwell. And I dont remember which Sowell interview, in the interview he points out how the average black kid at MIT is in the top ten percent in Math in the country, but bottom ten percent in math at MIT.

The second one is basically my story/ anecdotal/ venting.

You're implying that black students don't have the ability to adapt to a more rigorous curriculum :camby:

I think in 1933-34 we were in the same position we are now. Just a little less wealth.

That reading comprehension :mjlol:

I'm pretty sure he's saying that black kids who can handle MIT but have other things going on are not going. And black kids who can't but have a really good work ethic end up going and fukking up. He's not saying we can't handle it he's saying we're not being directed to our proper paths for success. Or maybe my comprehension is off. But Idk cacs say I'm in the 90%+ in that area so :patrice:

That's saying that black students can't adapt to a school like MIT's curriculum. i entirely disagree. Sometimes you need to be around high performers to perform higher.

Curriculum != Curve breh. I NEVER said the word curriculum or workload. The cs classes at my school are just like the ones at Harvard, the average grade/100 is just a lot lower.

Dont ever imply I would say something like that about us .

It might be another black kid at the top o the curve fukking it up for the AA admit. But bro. No one with an 1800 SAT should be on the same curve as a first semester freshman with someone with a 2200. The 2200 kid fukking up the curve could be another black kid.

The same shyt will happen with gay, disabled, athlete, trans, whatever. If your SAT is a standard deviation below mine and we take calc 1, physics 1, chem 1,and intro to computer science on the same curve, your confidence will be hurt.

I don't think that's what he means

Explain breh, maybe I'm missing something but that's what I got out of it...I'm not on that militant shyt but I can't stand when people act like black people can't achieve at the same academic levels as white people. Their brains are not more advanced then ours, why are we acting like traditionally white schools are traditionally white solely because black people are not intelligent enough to attend????

:whoa:Maybe I misread something, but at the same time do you really believe standardized tests are the ultimate measure of intelligence?

SAT math - This is a test of if you can handle engineering school now

SAT reading - tests how much language u have been exposed to. extremely culturally biased. This section is extremely biased to benefit middle-upper middle class whites. Words like "coxen" have been answers (poor/minority students dont row crew).

I dont think intelligence can be measured.

Damn, this thread reminded me of when higher learning was popping :to:
