This is a great idea for those of us that already have to use some form of aftercare.

Where I live aftercare ain't guaranteed, and care during the summer is another fee.

Its a win win for everyone .Teachers wouldn't do extra theyd just finish their shift and the care workers would step in after "school" hours .

Its consolidating shyt that's already there and introducing it for folk that need it.

why aren't they working on bills to help people's salaries catch up to inflation? Get more people working 1 sustainable job and get them off of this 2 job/extra hours shyt.

What they can do Is make after school clubs mandatory

how we mandating funding for this on a federal level? public education has been systematically dismantled for decades these schools dont even have the budget to sufficiently educate during reg school hours. My niece goes to a top performing school in the state (Ps 11 Brooklyn) and even this school which attracts top teir educators is struggling financial in every area. Public education in this country is finished and almost nobody wants to commit to funding its turnaround. and the ones that can afford it DGAF because their kids arent in Public school

A lot of districts already do this kind of stuff. The problem is you need programming to keep kids engaged. More academic work after 7-8 hours is not going to work.

I see the point but as someone mentioned earlier, how about shortening the workday so parents can spend more time with their kids.

Club activities (with transportation home) should fill up that extra 3 hours. Kids (who don't want it) don't need more than basic pre calc/u.s.history/world history/chemistry/biology.

Did you read the description? Some of what you’re saying makes sense, but most of it looks like you didn’t actually read it. It would be more like adding free mandatory daycare/after school programs not run by the teachers (unless they want to for additional pay), not extending the actual “learning” day.

The only thing is they would have to give parents the option to pick their students up before 6 for outside extracurricular activities
