c00ns still think BET has anything to do with black people? The shyt is straight poison run by cacs. Watch that boondocks episode where Huey watches that bullshyt for 48hrs. shyt none of them rappers should show up.

This ain't Donny Simpson, Video Soul, BET. (Bet you nikkas never saw Video Soul. :mjpls:)

No Rachel and Carribean Rhythms (:datazz:)

That shyt is a demonic poisoned husk of what it used to be

Watching, talking, or thinking about BET awards is an automatic L, those awards are like the awards little league teams give the fat kids for trying so hard, meaningless

For the record, I think Grammy's are stupid too, but people actually care about those

So you only watch/do stuff that others care about? :dahell:

You watch the awards to see artists get rewarded and the performances, why else would watch any of the award shows? Who cares about it being the little leagues?

I said I thought the grammy's were stupid, I never said I watched them. I was just playing devils advocate

For the record, I dont watch anything on TV except sports, cartoons and maybe raw sometimes

Are we talking about musical greatness or "club bangers" here?

BET awards are always promoting simple shyt, even if it's ratchet as fukk i.e. Dj Khaled and associates, Chris Brown and on.
Now Yeezus usually wins but when he does something complex, nope. In 90 Mc Hammer & Vanilla Ice dominated the radio but PE and Brand Nubian dominated the reviews but with little direct impact. Wouldn't you be mad if Hammer and Vanilla were winning and PE/Nubian not even nominated?

Now thats not a perfect comparison, so don't complain about it.

However Yeezus had a big impact on a lot of connoisseurs, while Gucci mane fans and conservative hiphop fans might've had a problem with it..
The hiphop kids who hang on Complex, KTT, write on rapgenius, go to sxsw, the hype beasts etc all fukked with it. It sparked a lot of debate regarding "classism", new slaves, the minimal hard hitting production style gained a lot of attention again (Although one could argue that Asap Rocky and his people were ahead in that regard).. But again it wasn't for everyone and it was definitely not for people wanting a easy, cool listen. Nor people who wanted to hear simple pop noise like Tom Ford and Holy Grail.

This plays more to the point I was making. Yeezus is an album that people who supposedly like the album are always defending it. One could argue that none of Kanye's albums are an easy listen and weren't for everyone. The difference between Yeezus and Kanye's past albums is that those albums didn't push boundaries for the sake of pushing boundaries. In fact, it's something that's pretty much put on the back burner because the greatness of the music is at the forefront. It has nothing to do with Gucci Mane fans or conservative Hip Hop fans. Maybe people just don't think Yeezus was THAT good.

LOL @ "Tom Ford" and "Holy Grail" being simple Pop noise. Many would argue that "On Sight" was noise (no genre attached), just noise.

For the record, I've listened to both albums and consider neither the best album of 2013.

Im gonna try to respond from the phone.
I think most Kanyes albums were pretty easy, Graduation being like some Michael Jackson shyt.
every song except the one everyone hated was easy. CD, could play as background music with all those super safe samples. Yeezus however was something special, it was not made for radio, people who watch BET or road trip music. On Site is some real hiphop shyt from the early 80s with better mastering and a lot more intense

And i don't think he did it solely to push boundaries, i think he did it to challenge himself, hiphop and his listeners in regards to showing that theres still more ways to make hiphop. Unlike pop and rock that have huge indie scenes where innovation is taking place.. In hiphop there's very few people innovating kanye, drake, asap, danny brown and kendrick are the few people i can think of.

And when i say pop noise, im talking about people like Gaga, Katy Perry, Minaj and whatever the fukk. Simple shyt for simple music listeners.

And I dont care about most hiphop fans, most hiphop fans listen to the wack shyt inhear when I listen to radio. Most hiphop fans think Macklemore is one of the best rappers in years, that Minaj is a heavyweight rapper, that BP3 is one of jays best albums.

As i said it was a polarizing album, it was not for everyone and still sold 700k with no promo. Still had the best reviews and id rather go by the exclusive group of advanced music listeners than the broad crowd, containing a fat portion of simple listeners, to form an opinion about the response. And the coli has been proven to not represent any type of population.

:rudy: @ buddy trying to name-drop donnie simpson & rachel only to prove no point whatsoever.

in the video soul days, the soul train awards was THEE award show for the black community. yet, they dealt with alot of no-shows as well. so did the source awards(the '95 joint was the only one where dam near everybody showed up).

lets see you namedrop your way out of this one. hell, i could make a thread about the soul train awards right now and i bet i'd draw blanks from the majority of the people in here complaining. the same way people in here complain about BET but look lost whenever TV-ONE or any of the other black stations are brought up.
