It's the opposite really. This is a guy who legitimately guards 1-5 capable of switching onto anyone from Durant to Harden or anchoring an elite defensive small ball lineup at center, and protects the paint at a high level. He's objectively the most versatile defender in the league.

No he doesn't. Real big men have a field day with him and chew him up every time. Aldrige, Griffin, ect. make light work of him. If the Rockets actually made Dwight the first option he'd destroy Draymond and they'd have a chance in the series. Also no, he's never been able to shut down guards, people need to stop with this myth. Besides moving screens and holding he's overrated defensively.

Kawhi on the other hand gets help through double teams, gets embarrassed by Steph, and has one of the best rim protectors in the league.

Draymond deserved to win last year more than this year, but I was hoping they would've made up for it by letting him have it. Kawhi is a great defender but this is a default choice by casual writers.
