:shaq:HE ALSO ADMITTED PLAYING WITH SHAQ GOT KOBE EASY BUCKETS.

Playing with Shaq obviously got Kobe easy buckets, but people back then took it too far by saying Kobe would be an Average 2 guard without Shaq.

What were Kobe's flaws in 2001?

How is a dude who has mediocre shot selection flawless? I mean he makes a lot of horrible shots go in, but the fact that he even takes them is questionable. If Kobe had learned how to play off the ball more effectively earlier in his career he would have been that much better of a player.

Right now Durant actually plays better off the ball that Kobe, Wade, and Lebron.

Nah, it's just why you can't judge a guy's career solely by his MVP count. Dwyane Wade probably won't ever get one even though he is one of the best players of this era and has put up several seasons that were worthy of an MVP. Kobe has too but it doesn't mean he should have more than he does. The only years people can even make arguments about Kobe getting robbed are the two years he was putting up numbers on bad teams.
Wade only had one MVP type regular season and that was 09.

Because Shaq was the best player on the team, was better than Kobe during that time, and was the player that other teams scouted and game-planned the most for. As great as Kobe was, the dude was and always will be remembered as the 2nd option during the 3-peat. Even though he took more shots than Shaq, Shaq was a lot more efficient and was just unstoppable and untouchable. But, imo what made the Lakers great during that run was that Kobe had that mentality that he was the best player on the court no matter what, which had teams shook to, because he wouldn't take no backseat to anyone. It's sorta like the Durant & Westbrook dynamic that they have, as both are great players, and both think and want to be the best player on the court when they play. If you look at it now, the Shaq & Kobe dynamic is a bit similiar to the Durant & Westbrook dynamic.

But you were basically saying it like Kobe was matching Durant's stats even though he was a 2nd option that wasn't allowed to get off. At the same time, you're acknowledging it actually made things easier for Kobe and people have already pointed out that he was shooting more than his 1st option or Durant at the time. With that said, why are we trying to prorate his numbers?

I think Kobe could play off the ball just fine with the right offense and team. :manny:

Especially if they got rid of Gasol or Bynum and decided to make Kobe their 2nd post player. At the beginning of the '10 season he did that and was off the ball for a good amount of time.

Eventually the Lakers always start leaning on him to become a ballhandler and playmaker, something Durant doesn't have to deal with.

you just destroyed your argument, imagine durant with shaq :heh:

what did it destroy? All I said was that Shaq was the #1 option and helped made everyone, including Kobe better. That was how the triangle offense was designed to be like, which no teams could stop during the 3-peat. What system is Durant & Westbrook in? shyt is practically an iso offense, with pick n rolls here and than. The Kobe & Shaq dynamic is sorta the same as Durant & Westbrook. Westbrook, the 2nd option is shooting more shots than the best player on the team, at a lesser efficient rate, just like Kobe did with Shaq. shyt, imagine Kobe playing iso ball like the Thunder are doing back in the 2000's, Kobe might just fukk around and score like 36-37 ppg during the early 2000's during his athletic peak.

06, 09, 10, and 11 could all be MVP statlines. Kobe has a bunch of them as well.
He wasn't special in the regular season in 06. 27/6/5 is nothing special. Several players do that.

26/6/5 in 10 and 25/6/5 in 11 are nothing special either.

2009 was an MVP type season, the others weren't.

Kobe's always been a volume shooter. He averaged 19 shots a game with Shaq. His highest scoring season, he put up 27. There would've been more seasons like that if he didn't play with Shaq early on. He would've been shattering records from 2001-2004.
