But Canibus was like the most hyped artist in the world 20 years ago. Him going gold was a disappointment and flop. Bis was doing songs with Death Row era Dogg Pound, was on the Firm album, LL's album, was on the gone to November remix with R Kelly, etc.

If this was 1998 there would be all kinds of threads in here about him. I remember Budden talking about him being the most feared lyricist back in his heyday.

Salute to both

I can play people all of Canibus early freestyles and guest appearances, and they'll immediately understand why everyone was going so crazy. It's all about the rhymes, they were the craziest verses we'd heard in awhile. You can't really do the same for Keith, he relied much more on style, presence, personality, reputation etc..

I was too young to experience or remember the hypes but murray and rass kas both have canibus beat in the department of justifying their hypes with pretty good debuts.

Canibus' verse on desperado with the firm is almost more enjoyable than that whole first album of his.

Canibus was great ain't no denying that but how long did it last? He had a good 8 month run spitting on mixtapes and killing features then it was over. His career went so bad so quick

Yeah u can play earlier Canibus mixtape stuff now and seethat he was great... u can play old Keith Murray verses and see why he was great also

Keith held his own with Biggie, LL Cool J and Redman... some of the greatest ever

Keith Murray is on of those "you had to be there" rappers.
People talk about him, and debate his true level of "lyricism", but they forget that EVERYBODY in the industry thought that dude was going to be a star. There really aren't that many lyrical rappers that had the type of "all eyes on me" physical presence that he had, when he came out.
Puff was rocking with him, he had the R Kelly collab, he even got the Def Jam deal after he got out of jail, but he just kept getting in his own way. And it's kinda hard to go back to his material and convince someone who wasn't there, that he had next.

This sums it up perfectly. :wow:

So since we're comparing and contrasting... which one of these guys had the worse organized battle rap debut?

OPs comparison is terrible

first off...canibus was the new version of Snagglepuss....Not Kieth Murray.

Canibus, like Snagglepuss was that mixtape rapper who's verse u waited for over everyone elses.

And like Canibus, Snagglepus never delievered on his hype.

Also...OP never once mentioned the fact that Canibus actually has gotten better as time has gone by. Not once did OP mention any of Canibus' albums from this decade.

Murray doesnt have 1 album fukking with Mic Clube....Not 1

I dare you to tell me C Of Tranquility wasnt on point. I dare you to say Lyrical Law or Time Flys wasn't on point. I dare you to say Melatonin Magik wasn't a good album.

Murray hasnt even put a out a solo this decade...The only project he did was with Canibus and Canibus was eating him on every track they spit on. :what:

Lets go back to 2003 when murray dropped his long awaited album after coming home from prison. Which album got more praise....Murrays album which you have to google to remember or Rip The Jacker??

:jbhmm:
