Speaking of documentaries, just watched Zeitgeist in its entirety last night. Might be the greatest documentary of all time. Saw bits and pieces of it throughout my life but never sat and watched it. Blew my mind. Zeitgeist and Everything is a Rich Mans Trick are 2 documentaries that completely shattered my perspective of civilized reality.

Gonna load this Vietnam joint up tonight once I put the kids to bed. Good looking.
Watched Zeitgeist when it came out, great Documentary. Watched Rich Mans Trick earlier this year and that fukked me up:gucci:The world is 100x more ruthless than we already think.

10 episode total 20 hours
the opening episode is what put this series on a different level tbh..

His WWII one “the war” helped put a lot of things in perspective for me when I got home from Afghanistan. It helped me to realize that some of the things we experienced weren’t just experienced in Vietnam and the gwot. They dealt with similar things during wwii, especially in the pacific. I also loved his focus on Black soldiers, Sailors, pilots, and Marines when other documentarians would completely ignore them.

I love the Vietnam one almost as much. A lot of MAGA style vets that joined after Vietnam and desert storm were acting like bytches about it because most of them didn’t actually see combat. They thought it should be some blind patriotic celebration. It WAS a celebration of the Vietnam veterans from both sides, in the best way possible. It celebrated their truths, their hopes, the things that kept them up at night. It celebrated not only their actions, but the men themselves. Most of us that saw the worst of combat really seemed to appreciate how meticulous he was while handling the subject with care, honesty, and compassion.

I can only hope to live long enough to see Ken and/or his Daughter do a documentary on us (Iraq/Afghanistan). I hope it’s just as raw, honest, and brutal as “The War” and “Vietnam”.

While in college I had an internship and my direct report was a guy who served in Vietnam.

He told me all types of stories. Came back and home and was so messed up mentally that he got hooked on heroin.

He had to sleep with his shotgun during storms cuz the thunder reminded him of bombs.

Messed his marriage and life up. Took him years to get right. He had been sober for 10 years by the time we met

I hate when I say this but Vietnam is my favorite war to learn and read about. It was truly amazing. Terrifying for our soldiers. Black troops made up the bulk of the army per capita. We really were used as cannon fodder in the beginning. Then we adapted…

It's fascinating cuz we gloss over this war in school but learn so much about WW2
