Sales numbers and popularity do have to factor into a Versuz otherwise it's going to be a confusing disaster.

I'm not even talking about quality, I'm talking about the two artists gotta be on somewhat equal footing. Kendrick and Lupe are not on equal footing. You can sit here and write a thesis on why Lupe is doper, more talented, more lyrical, etc. but none of that shyt matters because Kendrick has more big songs (and define big however you want....better known, more sales, more popular, more culturally relevant) than Lupe. Which factors heavily in a Versuz.
It ain't gotta be "big" as in pop, cross over shyt either. You see the RZA/Primo shyt went so well because they're on equal footing.

Obviously we can't compare unheard of guys to legends but lupe and kendrick are both similar artists
I'm definitely not the first to compare the two or pit them against each other
Kendrick was inspired by lupe, and was compared to him a lot at the beginning of his career
They both were seen as a return to lyricism in their respective eras and have their share of classics albums
I put them against each other because lupe was in the exact same position up until lasers
Now people wanna revise history like lupe hasn't been influential
